Under the Central government’s PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, 11 cities in Andhra Pradesh will soon get 1,050 electric buses.

Key Highlights:

  • Andhra Pradesh will get 1,050 electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme in 11 cities.
  • Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Nellore will each get 100 buses, while other cities will receive 50 buses each.
  • APSRTC is setting up charging stations and substations as well as preparing bus depots.
  • New staff will be hired and trained to manage and maintain electric buses.
  • Two models, 9-meter and 12-meter buses, will be introduced with a cost of ₹62.17 and ₹72.55 per kilometre, respectively.

As part of a major shift towards greener public transportation, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced that the state will soon welcome 1,050 electric buses under the Central Government’s PM e-Bus Sewa scheme. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is planning to replace its old diesel buses with battery-powered ones. They will also set up the necessary infrastructure at 12 bus depots to support this change. Under the Central government’s PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, 11 cities in Andhra Pradesh will soon get 1,050 electric buses. These buses aim to cut down city pollution and improve public transport.

As part of the scheme, cities like Amaravati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram, Guntur, Nellore, Kakinada, Kadapa, Anantapur, Tirupati, and Kurnool will get the new electric buses. Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Nellore will each receive 100 buses, while the other cities will get 50 buses each.

Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model

The project will be executed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with Pune-based Pinnacle Mobility Solutions securing the contract to run the electric buses. Under this model, the state corporation will pay for the services per kilometre operated, ensuring efficient cost management and smooth operation.

For the successful execution of these buses, APSRTC is building substations and setting up charging stations at all bus depots. APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao said that work is going on to build the infrastructure needed to charge the electric buses. He also mentioned that new staff would be hired and trained to handle the operations and maintenance of these buses.

The contract to run the electric buses has been given to Pune-based Pinnacle Mobility Solutions. Two types of buses will be introduced—9-meter and 12-meter models. APSRTC will pay ₹62.17 per kilometre for the 9-meter bus and ₹72.55 per kilometre for the 12-meter one. These buses are expected to offer a quieter, smoother, and emission-free ride. “This is a big move to replace old diesel buses with cleaner and more efficient electric buses,” said APSRTC Chairman Narayana Rao.

CMV360 Says

This project supports the State’s new plan for sustainable urban growth while also helping to improve air quality and create new job opportunities in cities across Andhra Pradesh. Electric buses in cities like Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada will make daily travel cleaner and quieter. It’s good to see a focus on both better air and job creation. The move feels timely as cities need smarter transport now.
