JCB has officially introduced the TM280S telehandler at the LAMMA 2025 exhibition. This latest addition bridges the gap between the TM220 and TM320S modelsoffering increased lifting capacity, refined design, and more power.

Key Features of the JCB TM280S

Enhanced Performance and Capability

  • The TM280 and TM280S offer a 2.75-tonne lift capacity and a 4.8-meter lift height, meeting market demand for mid-range JCB telehandlers.
  • The Command Plus cab, similar to the one in the TM320, provides a spacious and ergonomic layout with upgraded styling.

High-Performance Engine and Transmission

  • The TM280 features a 4.8-litre DieselMax engine producing 109hp, paired with a 30 km/h hydrostatic transmission.
  • The TM280S is equipped with a 130hp DieselMax engine and JCB’s in-house DualTech VT transmission, operating in hydrostatic mode up to 25 km/h before shifting to direct mechanical drive at 40 km/h.

Improved Design and Accessibility

  • A redesigned articulated chassis enhances rearward visibility while lowering the engine placement for better balance.
  • The new models are up to 18cm lower than competitors, ensuring better clearance without sacrificing underbelly space.
  • Width options: Available in 2.1m or 2.3m, depending on tyre selection.

High-Performance Hydraulic System

  • The TM280S is equipped with a 140-litre/min piston pump hydraulic system, improving operational efficiency.
  • A new integrated pick-up hitch in the rear chassis enhances both functionality and aesthetics.

Industry Insights and Expert Opinions

JCB engineers designed the TM280S to deliver a powerful yet compact solution, making it ideal for operations requiring high lifting capacity and easy maneuverability. Its 2.59m optimized cab height ensures compatibility with buildings that have height restrictions.

A JCB spokesperson commented,

The TM280S represents JCB’s dedication to innovation. By filling a crucial gap in our telehandler range, we are providing customers with a versatile and high-performance machine.

An industry expert added,

JCB’s TM280S offers an impressive combination of power, visibility, and compact dimensions. The DualTech VT transmission is a game-changer, giving operators enhanced efficiency and control.”
