Rokbak, formerly known as Terex Trucks, generated revenues of SEK 1.0 billion in 2025 but has remained loss-making. Volvo CE stated that the closure will impact its operating income by about SEK 0.7 billion in the first quarter of 2026. Of this, SEK 0.4 billion relates to non-cash items, mainly goodwill impairment.
The company explained that rising operational and supply chain costs, along with global trade challenges, have weighed heavily on Rokbak's financial performance. These factors contributed to the decision to close the business and reallocate resources to Volvo CE’s broader hauling solutions portfolio.
Volvo CE said the decision supports its focus on long-term sustainability and innovation. The company plans to invest in developing and expanding its core hauling solutions. Despite the closure of Rokbak, the Motherwell facility in Scotland will remain operational. It will continue to serve as a key hub for designing and manufacturing Volvo rigid haulers and support future product development.
The closure process is subject to a collective consultation, which is expected to conclude by the third quarter of 2026. Volvo CE stated it will work closely with unions, government authorities, and stakeholders to ensure a responsible transition for affected employees.
Rokbak has manufactured off-highway articulated haulers for over forty years. The unit has faced increasing costs and global supply chain disruptions, which have affected its profitability. Volvo CE’s decision reflects a broader industry trend of adapting to changing market conditions and focusing on sustainable growth.
