Kerala Agricultural University and VST Tillers Tractors Limited have signed a major Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen agricultural mechanization research and promote modern farming solutions in Kerala. The partnership aims to improve collaboration between industry and academia in the agricultural sector through research, testing, training, and farmer awareness programs.

Focus on Agricultural Engineering and Mechanization

Under the agreement, both institutions will work together on agricultural engineering, agricultural mechanization research, product testing, performance evaluation, and extension activities. The collaboration will combine the technical expertise of VST Tillers with the research, teaching, and extension capabilities of Kerala Agricultural University.

The two organizations will jointly carry out projects related to tractor and agricultural equipment testing, training programs, and awareness campaigns for farmers. The partnership is expected to help farmers gain better access to advanced and affordable farming machinery.

VST Tillers to Provide 13 HP to 50 HP Equipment

As part of the collaboration, VST Tillers Tractors Limited will provide power tillers and tractors ranging from 13 HP to 50 HP for testing, demonstration, and research activities at KAU farms. The company will also offer technical support for the machines.

Kerala Agricultural University will provide field facilities, operational support, and research expertise for testing, evaluation, and demonstration activities. The partnership will support field-level testing of new technologies and help develop machinery according to the needs of farmers in Kerala.

Mechanization Solutions for Kerala’s Farming Needs

Both institutions said the partnership will create a strong platform for developing advanced mechanization solutions suited to Kerala’s unique agricultural conditions. The state faces challenges such as small land holdings, labour shortages, and diverse cropping patterns, increasing the need for modern agricultural machinery.

The initiative is expected to improve farm productivity, reduce labour dependency, and promote sustainable farming practices. It will also help make modern agricultural equipment more affordable and accessible for small and marginal farmers.

Practical Learning Opportunity for Students and Researchers

The agreement is also expected to benefit students and researchers at Kerala Agricultural University. Students will get opportunities to participate in joint projects related to agricultural mechanization and modern farming technologies.

The collaboration will provide practical exposure in areas such as agricultural engineering, machine design, testing procedures, and advanced farming techniques. Officials believe this industry-academia partnership will strengthen skill development among students and young researchers.

VST Tillers CEO Highlights Vision for Farmers

Antony Cherukara, Chief Executive Officer of VST Tillers Tractors Limited, said the company is pleased to collaborate with a prestigious agricultural education and research institution like Kerala Agricultural University.

He stated that the partnership aligns with the company’s vision of offering innovative and affordable mechanization solutions for small and marginal farmers. According to him, the collaboration with KAU experts and students will help develop practical and field-oriented technologies aimed at improving farmers’ income and agricultural efficiency.

He also mentioned that students involved in the collaboration will get opportunities to work with the company’s upcoming Global Technology Development Center in Hosur.

KAU Calls It an Important Step for Innovation

Dr. A. Sakeer Hussain, Registrar of Kerala Agricultural University, described the agreement as an important step toward strengthening research, innovation, and technology dissemination in agricultural mechanization.

He said that partnering with a leading company like VST will provide students with practical industry exposure, improve research quality, and accelerate the development of effective technologies suitable for Kerala’s farming system.

Officials from both organizations called the partnership a significant initiative for providing farmers with modern, efficient, and affordable mechanization technologies in the agricultural sector.
