Filling tractor tyres with water enhances traction and stability, aiding efficient farming on slippery or waterlogged fields.

Tractor is a very important agricultural machine for farming work. With its help, all the farming work can be done easily. A tractor is used for sowing, harvesting and then taking the crop to the market for sale. Seeing the utility of the tractor, today every farmer wants to have a tractor so that he can do farming work easily in less time.
You must have often seen that farmers fill water in the rear tyres of the tractor while driving it in the field. Why is this done, why do farmers fill water in the tractor tyres? Often this question comes to our mind that what is the science behind filling water in the tractor tyres. Today we will try to understand the reason behind this topic.
The process of filling water in the tyres of a tractor is called ballasting of tyres. Under this process, about 60 to 80 per cent of water is filled in the tyres of the tractor. The main reason for filling water in the tyres of a tractor is to increase the weight of the tractor. When water is filled in the tyres of a tractor, the weight of the tractor increases, which strengthens the grip of its wheels on the ground. This is done mostly when the tractor is to be used in a slippery field or place so that the grip of the wheels of the tractor on the ground remains intact and the slippage is also reduced. This technique is used while doing works like ploughing the field or lifting heavy equipment.
The valves in agriculture or agricultural tractors are of air and water type. When water is filled in the tyres of the tractor, the air present in the tyres comes out through the second valve. Due to this the tractor becomes heavy and can easily move with a strong grip even on slippery fields.

Sometimes the tractor has to be driven on a waterlogged field or a slippery place. In such a situation, the air-filled tyres start sliding on the ground due to being light or start rotating in one place, which makes driving the tractor very difficult. In such a situation, water is filled in the tractor tyres to make them heavier so that they can maintain a strong grip on the ground and move easily even on a slippery field.
The science behind water ballasting or filling water in tyres is that when water is filled in the tyres of a tractor, its weight increases which increases traction. Traction is directly related to friction, while friction depends on weight. This is the reason that when water is filled in the tractor, the tractor becomes heavier and maintains its strong grip on the ground, due to which the tractor can run easily even on very slippery roads.

Filling water in tractor tyres is a practical technique used by farmers to enhance the performance of their tractors in challenging conditions. By increasing the weight of the tractor through water ballasting, farmers can ensure better traction and stability, making it easier to perform various agricultural tasks efficiently. This method highlights the importance of understanding and utilizing simple yet effective techniques to improve farming operations.
