UP sugarcane price raised to ₹400/quintal.
₹30 hike to benefit 46 lakh farmers.
Farmers income up by ₹3,000 crore.
₹12,000 crore invested in the sugar sector.
UP leads India in sugar, ethanol output.
The Yogi Adityanath government has given a big Diwali gift to sugarcane farmers by increasing the State Advised Price (SAP) of sugarcane for the 2025–26 crushing season. The new price hike aims to ensure better income for farmers and strengthen the state’s sugarcane sector.
The state government has raised the sugarcane price by ₹30 per quintal, meaning farmers will now get:
₹400 per quintal for early-ripening sugarcane
₹390 per quintal for common (regular-ripening) sugarcane
This increase will directly benefit around 46 lakh sugarcane farmers across Uttar Pradesh, bringing joy and relief ahead of the new crushing season.
The state’s Sugarcane Minister announced that the government has increased the price by a total of ₹85 per quintal in the last eight years. This move is expected to boost farmers’ total income by ₹3,000 crore, marking the largest hike so far.
Since the BJP came to power, the SAP has been raised four times, reflecting the government’s continuous efforts to support the farming community.
Crushing Season | Price Increase (₹/quintal) |
2017–18 | ₹10 |
2021–22 | ₹25 |
2023–24 | ₹20 |
2025–26 | ₹30 |
When Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took office in 2017, the sugarcane price was first raised by ₹10. The price was later increased by ₹25 before the 2021–22 elections and by ₹20 in 2023–24. However, no hike was made in 2024–25. Now, in 2025–26, the government has taken another major step, increasing the rate by ₹30.

The Sugarcane Minister highlighted that before 2017, the sugarcane industry in Uttar Pradesh was struggling. Many mills were closed or sold off. Since then, the government has introduced transparency and reforms, reviving the entire sector.
Investment of ₹12,000 crore has been made in the sugarcane industry in the past eight years
4 new sugar mills opened, and 6 closed mills restarted
42 mills’ capacity expanded
Online sugarcane slip system launched to ensure transparency and timely payments
Uttar Pradesh now ranks number one in India for sugarcane, sugar, and ethanol production.
The sugarcane area has also grown from 9.51 lakh hectares (2007–2017) to 29.51 lakh hectares today.
Under the Yogi government, sugarcane payment to farmers has almost doubled:
Before 2017: ₹1,47,346 crore
After 2017: ₹2,90,225 crore
This clearly shows that sugarcane farmers income has doubled over the past eight years.
State | SAP (₹/quintal) |
Haryana | ₹415 |
Punjab | ₹401 |
Uttar Pradesh | ₹400 |
Uttarakhand | ₹375 |
Karnataka | ₹370 |
Bihar | ₹365 |
Maharashtra | ₹355 |
With the latest increase, Uttar Pradesh has become one of the top-paying states for sugarcane farmers, standing close to Haryana and Punjab.
The decision has brought happiness among farmers, who see this as a long-awaited relief. Farmer organizations welcomed the move, calling it a “delayed but positive step.”
However, sugar mill owners have expressed caution. Industry experts suggest that while the price hike benefits farmers, the government should also take steps to strengthen ethanol production and ensure that mills remain financially stable.

The Yogi government’s decision to increase sugarcane prices by ₹30 per quintal for the 2025–26 crushing season marks another milestone in supporting farmers. With improved transparency, growing investments, and record production, Uttar Pradesh continues to lead the nation in the sugarcane sector — fulfilling its commitment to double farmers’ income and strengthen rural prosperity.
