New Sugarcane Rates for 2025–26 in Uttar Pradesh

The state government has raised the sugarcane price by ₹30 per quintal, meaning farmers will now get:

  • ₹400 per quintal for early-ripening sugarcane

  • ₹390 per quintal for common (regular-ripening) sugarcane

This increase will directly benefit around 46 lakh sugarcane farmers across Uttar Pradesh, bringing joy and relief ahead of the new crushing season.

Sugarcane Price Growth Over the Past 8 Years

The state’s Sugarcane Minister announced that the government has increased the price by a total of ₹85 per quintal in the last eight years. This move is expected to boost farmers’ total income by ₹3,000 crore, marking the largest hike so far.

Since the BJP came to power, the SAP has been raised four times, reflecting the government’s continuous efforts to support the farming community.

UP’s Sugarcane Sector Shows Remarkable Growth

The Sugarcane Minister highlighted that before 2017, the sugarcane industry in Uttar Pradesh was struggling. Many mills were closed or sold off. Since then, the government has introduced transparency and reforms, reviving the entire sector.

  • Investment of ₹12,000 crore has been made in the sugarcane industry in the past eight years

  • 4 new sugar mills opened, and 6 closed mills restarted

  • 42 mills’ capacity expanded

  • Online sugarcane slip system launched to ensure transparency and timely payments

UP Leads the Nation in Sugarcane, Sugar, and Ethanol Production

Uttar Pradesh now ranks number one in India for sugarcane, sugar, and ethanol production.
The sugarcane area has also grown from 9.51 lakh hectares (2007–2017) to 29.51 lakh hectares today.

Under the Yogi government, sugarcane payment to farmers has almost doubled:

  • Before 2017: ₹1,47,346 crore

  • After 2017: ₹2,90,225 crore

This clearly shows that sugarcane farmers income has doubled over the past eight years.

Farmers Cheer, Sugar Mills Stay Cautious

The decision has brought happiness among farmers, who see this as a long-awaited relief. Farmer organizations welcomed the move, calling it a “delayed but positive step.”

However, sugar mill owners have expressed caution. Industry experts suggest that while the price hike benefits farmers, the government should also take steps to strengthen ethanol production and ensure that mills remain financially stable.
