Target to make 1 crore women lakhpatis in one year.
3 crore women to be linked with SHGs.
Focus on agriculture and small businesses.
Training, loans, and market support are assured.
Women are encouraged to become entrepreneurs.
The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a major and ambitious step to empower women economically. Under the Lakhpati Didi Yojana, the state aims to make 1 crore women financially self-reliant within one year. To achieve this goal, around 3 crore women will be connected with Self Help Groups (SHGs) and provided with sustainable livelihood opportunities. This initiative focuses on turning rural women into active contributors to economic growth rather than just beneficiaries.

The Lakhpati Didi Scheme, inspired by a central government initiative, is being implemented effectively in Uttar Pradesh under the Yogi government. The main objective is to help women associated with SHGs earn an annual income of ₹1 lakh or more.
Under this scheme, women receive training, technical guidance, financial support, and market linkage so they can start and run income-generating activities on a sustainable basis.
Women selected under the Lakhpati Didi Yojana will be involved in both agricultural and non-agricultural activities, including:
Animal husbandry and dairy farming
Poultry farming
Vegetable and seed production
Beekeeping and mushroom cultivation
Handicrafts and cottage industries
Food processing units
Sewing, embroidery, incense stick making, spice and papad production
These activities allow women to earn from home or nearby locations, helping them balance work and family responsibilities while increasing income.
The scheme is being implemented through the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission (UPSRLM). Dedicated teams visit villages to identify eligible women and connect them with SHGs.
Skill development training
Initial capital assistance
Bank loan linkage
Market access for selling products
The government is focusing strongly on market connectivity, ensuring that women’s products reach buyers. Several districts have already shown positive income results through this model.

A key goal of the Lakhpati Didi Yojana is to help women move beyond self-employment and become job-creating entrepreneurs. Strong support systems are being built across finance, technology, training, and marketing.
According to the government, this scheme will strengthen the rural economy and bring a visible improvement in the social and economic status of women, enabling them to emerge as confident income earners and business owners.
Women must meet the following conditions to benefit from the scheme:
Must be a member of a Self Help Group (SHG)
Should be registered under the Rural or Urban Livelihood Mission
Must be involved in an income-generating activity
Business and skill-based training
Government assistance to start enterprises
Easy bank loans through financial linkage
Financial literacy support
Market linkage for selling products
Target of earning ₹1 lakh or more annually
Women do not need to apply separately for the Lakhpati Didi Yojana. Beneficiaries are selected through SHGs with support from the Gram Panchayat, Block Office, or Livelihood Mission officials.
Gram Panchayat Office
Block Development Office
NRLM or UPSRLM officials
Their respective SHG groups
The Lakhpati Didi Yojana stands as a strong step toward women-led rural development, aiming to create financially independent women and a stronger grassroots economy across Uttar Pradesh.
