As the wheat sowing season begins across India, farmers are busy planting crops for the Rabi season. To help increase yields, agriculture scientists and universities have developed improved wheat varieties. One of these promising varieties is Karan Shivani DBW 327, which has shown record-breaking potential.
Developed by the Indian Wheat and Barley Research Institute in Karnal, this wheat variety is gaining attention for its high yield and disease resistance. Farmers have reported wheat production of up to 87.7 quintals per hectare, much higher than traditional varieties.
The Karan Shivani DBW 327 wheat variety was officially released in 2021 and is recommended for early sowing in irrigated areas of Northwestern India. This includes parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Western Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Farmers in the North-Western plains of India can sow Karan Shivani DBW 327 wheat till the third week of November. For optimal results, the seed rate should be 100 kg per hectare, with 20 cm spacing between rows. It's recommended to treat seeds with Vitavax to protect against disease and use about 5-6 irrigations during the growing season.
Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar, has shared advice to ensure a better wheat harvest. They recommend sowing wheat between 1st November and 25th November using a Seed cum Fertilizer Drill Machine at a depth of 5 cm and 20 cm row spacing. The university also highlights the importance of using appropriate wheat varieties, fertilizers, and modern farming practices to maximize yield.
