Government Offers ₹14 Lakh Subsidy for Fish and Shrimp Farming in Haryana

Key Highlights:

  • ₹14 lakh subsidy per hectare for fish farming

  • Focus on waterlogged and saline land use

  • Projects in Bhiwani and Sirsa underway

  • Inter-department coordination for implementation

  • Campaigns to link farmers with the scheme

The Government of India is giving a subsidy of ₹14 lakh per hectare for fish and shrimp farming under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). This scheme aims to boost fish production, improve quality, and raise income for fish farmers.

Farmers can use this subsidy to build ponds, hatcheries, cages, nurseries, and install important equipment like ventilation systems. It also supports fish farming in rivers, ponds, canals, lakes, waterlogged, and saline water areas.

Haryana Farmers Can Benefit from Waterlogged and Saline Land

Haryana is seeing a push to promote fish and shrimp farming in waterlogged and brackish (saline) lands. State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana announced that farmers in these areas will get financial help to start fish farming businesses.

He said this during a meeting with officials from the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, and Fisheries Departments. The goal is to turn unused waterlogged and salty land into income-generating fish farms, supporting a 'Blue Revolution' in the state.

Focus on Blue Revolution and Sustainable Income

Minister Rana emphasized using joint efforts between the Fisheries, Agriculture, and Soil Conservation departments to make the best use of water resources. He said:

  • Saline and waterlogged land can be used for shrimp and fish farming.

  • Eucalyptus and other trees can be planted on saline land with help from the Forest Department to generate extra income.

  • This will reduce dependence on traditional farming and open up new, sustainable income sources.

Target to Reclaim 1 Lakh Acres of Brackish Land

After June 2025, the Haryana government plans to reclaim 1 lakh acres of saline land and turn it into productive land for fish farming.

A ₹14 lakh subsidy per hectare will be provided, and district-level committees will help in running the projects smoothly. Eligible farmers will be identified and guided through special awareness campaigns.

Projects in Bhiwani and Sirsa Moving Ahead

Ongoing fisheries projects in the Bhiwani and Sirsa districts were also discussed in the meeting:

  • Bhiwani: The Land has been secured. Blueprints for power and water supply are being made. Tenders will be floated soon, and work may begin by the end of April.

  • Sirsa: A 25-acre fish farming project is being planned. Land identification is in progress, and the Deputy Commissioner has been asked to speed up the process.

Government Committed to Promoting Aquaculture

Additional Chief Secretary Raja Shekhar Vundruconfirmed that all departments will work together to make the most of the available water resources. The government wants to create more high-income opportunities through fish and shrimp farming.

With financial help and clear government support, now is a great time for farmers in Haryana to explore aquaculture and increase their earnings.

CMV360 Says

The government’s ₹14 lakh subsidy under PMMSY offers a big chance for Haryana farmers to turn waterlogged and saline lands into profitable fish and shrimp farms. With strong support, inter-department coordination, and new projects, this move can boost income, promote sustainable farming, and drive the Blue Revolution across the state.
