₹4,000 subsidy per acre for soybean cultivation.
Free distribution of 355 quintals of certified seeds.
Scheme implementation in Begusarai, Lakhisarai, and Khagaria.
Local production of 100 quintals of breeder seeds.
Farmer training through cluster model and field schools.
In a major step towards improving farmers income and boosting oilseed production, the Bihar government has launched a new scheme focused on soybean cultivation for the Kharif 2025 season. Under this scheme, farmers will receive a subsidy of ₹4,000 per acre and 100% free certified soybean seeds.
This scheme is initially being implemented in three districts, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, and Khagaria, where a crop demonstration program is running across 5,000 acres of land.

Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinhashared that the scheme offers direct financial support of ₹4,000 per acre to farmers. This financial aid will help reduce the cultivation cost of soybean and improve farmers earnings.
Additionally, the government is distributing 355 quintals of certified soybean seeds free of cost. The 100 quintals of breeder seeds provided by the Central Government are also being produced locally in Bihar. This will help ensure that high-quality seeds are available to farmers within the state in the future and will promote seed self-sufficiency.
To make the scheme successful and productive, the government is introducing a cluster model approach. Under this, each selected district will have cluster areas where farmer field schools and training programs will be organized. These programs aim to connect farmers with modern and scientific farming techniques for soybeans to maximize yield and improve soil health.
Soybean is one of the most profitable crops that provides multiple benefits to farmers:
High Nutrition: Known as a protein powerhouse, soybean contains around 40% protein. It is used to make soy milk, tofu, cheese, and health products. The leftover meal is a nutritious animal feed that helps in increasing milk production.
Strong Market Demand: Soybean oil is a major part of India's edible oil industry and is also used in soap, paint, cosmetics, and bio-diesel industries. Due to its wide applications, farmers can easily sell their produce at good prices.
Improves Soil Health: Being a leguminous crop, soybean fixes nitrogen in the soil. This naturally increases soil fertility and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers in the next crop cycle.
Cost-Effective Cultivation: Soybean requires less water, fewer pesticides, and fertilizers, which makes it a low-cost and sustainable crop. The government subsidy and free seeds further lower the financial burden, making it a high-profit option for farmers in Bihar.

Till now, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra have led in soybean production. But this new initiative by the Bihar government aims to attract farmers towards oilseed cultivation, especially soybean, and reduce dependence on other states.
With this scheme, Bihar is moving towards self-sufficiency in oilseed production. It not only helps in boosting income for farmers but also strengthens the agricultural economy of the state.
