Odisha to start housing distribution under PMAY-G from September 17.
Eligible members living separately will also get houses on subsidy.
Disabled beneficiaries to be given priority in allotment.
Subsidy increased from ₹1.20 lakh to ₹1.80 lakh plus ₹20,000 MNREGA wages.
Over 25 lakh applications received for the scheme in Odisha.
There is a big relief for the homeless people of Odisha. Under the Antyodaya Yojana linked with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), the state government has announced the start of housing distribution on subsidy from September 17. This move will benefit not only those who were already eligible but also family members living separately, such as father-son, brothers, or married daughters, who were left out earlier.
The most important update is that eligible family members living separately will now get their own houses under subsidy. For example, if brothers or father and son live separately, they will be counted as individual families and allotted separate houses. Married daughters staying in their maternal home will also be considered eligible.
The state’s Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water, and Rural Development Minister, Rabi Narayan Nayak, announced this decision in a recent press conference. He informed that houses will be allotted in a phased manner to ensure benefits reach all eligible people. Earlier, many were left out due to different reasons, but this time, everyone will be included. The minister also said that this step will not only provide social justice but also improve the standard of living in rural areas.
The government has given special emphasis on supporting the disabled. In this phase of housing distribution, priority will be given to disabled beneficiaries. The aim is to provide permanent housing to socially deprived and economically weaker sections so that the dream of “Housing for All” is fulfilled.
Housing distribution will officially start on September 17, which is the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The state government will organize special programmes across Odisha for this occasion. The final beneficiary list will be released soon, and people from different districts will receive their new houses in the first phase.
So far, more than 25 lakh applications have been submitted under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) in Odisha. However, the minister has not confirmed the number of houses to be distributed in the first phase. Citizens are waiting to see how many houses will be sanctioned in total and which districts will get priority.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) is a flagship scheme of the central government that provides permanent houses to economically weaker sections in rural areas. Both the Central and State governments provide financial subsidy to beneficiaries. The scheme ensures that every rural family has a strong, concrete house to live in.
The Antyodaya Yojana is a welfare initiative aimed at uplifting the poorest sections of society. By linking it with PMAY-G, the Odisha government has made the housing scheme more inclusive. Now, even those who live separately within the same family unit, such as brothers, father-son pairs, or married daughters, will be eligible for their own house at a 50% government subsidy.
The subsidy amount for building houses has also been increased. Under the scheme, beneficiaries will now receive ₹1.80 lakh compared to the earlier ₹1.20 lakh. In addition, they will get ₹20,000 wages under MNREGA. This means eligible people will receive ₹60,000 more than before to construct their permanent homes.
With the combined efforts of Antyodaya Yojana and PMAY-G, lakhs of people in Odisha will benefit from this initiative. For the first time, family members living separately will also get the advantage of subsidized housing. This decision reflects the government’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, making the promise of a home for all a reality.
