₹50,000 additional subsidy announced for beneficiaries.
30 lakh permanent houses built in one year.
Rural employment to rise with solar panel installations.
10 lakh homes approved in Maharashtra under PMAY.
The central government has made a big announcement for the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan declared in Pune that now every house under this scheme will get solar panels, ensuring lifetime free electricity, along with an additional subsidy of ₹50,000.
This move is expected to benefit millions of poor families, offering them not just permanent housing but also relief from rising electricity costs and better energy access in rural areas.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) is a flagship rural housing scheme that the Government of India started in 2016. Its main objective is to provide pucca (permanent) houses to poor families living in kutcha homes or without shelter in rural areas.
Over the years, lakhs of families have received government aid to construct houses. Now, the scheme is being upgraded to also provide free electricity and solar-powered appliances with additional financial support.
At a public event in Balewadi, Pune, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced that:
Solar panels will be installed on every new house built under PMAY.
These panels will provide lifetime free electricity to the beneficiaries.
Additionally, an extra subsidy of ₹50,000 will be directly credited to the beneficiary’s bank account.
This initiative will:
Reduce electricity bills for poor families.
Promote the use of clean and renewable energy.
Help in reducing the country’s carbon footprint.
Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan shared a major update that:
“In the past one year, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 30 lakh poor families have received pucca houses.”
This shows the effective ground-level implementation of the scheme and the central government’s strong commitment to rural welfare.
The minister highlighted that PMAY-G is not only a housing scheme but a way to empower the rural economy. Here's how:
Construction work creates jobs for masons, carpenters, labourers, electricians, and local vendors.
Solar panel installation will increase demand for trained technical workers in villages.
Youth will find new employment opportunities through this renewable energy focus.
This chain of development will help make villages more self-reliant and economically stable.
The government also made a special mention of Maharashtra’s performance:
Over 10 lakh rural families in Maharashtra have received approval for pucca homes under PMAY-G.
The Maharashtra government has invested ₹65,000 crore in rural housing schemes till now.
This reflects both the central and state government's dedication to uplifting rural citizens with better housing and living conditions.
