To tackle the issues of water scarcity and falling groundwater levels, the Bihar government will provide financial assistance to farmers for creating irrigation resources. This includes drip and sprinkler systems, wells, tube wells, and farm ponds. The move is part of efforts to improve water management in agriculture and ensure long-term benefits for crop production and farmer’s income.
Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha shared that under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (Per Drop More Crop), micro irrigation systems are being promoted. For the financial year 2025-26, the state has approved ₹14066.66 lakh for this scheme. The goal is to reach more farmers with efficient water usage solutions and boost crop production.

This financial support will help farmers build water source structures and make irrigation more stable and efficient in the long run.
The government will also run training and awareness programs to help farmers understand and adopt micro irrigation techniques. Farmers will be trained on how to use drip and sprinkler systems effectively. These methods can save up to 60% water and boost crop productivity by 25–30%.
To make the process transparent and quick, farmers can apply for these benefits through the official portal or public service centers managed by the State Agriculture Department. The subsidy amount will be directly credited to the farmers’ DBT-linked bank accounts after the purchase of equipment or the construction of irrigation systems.
