A positive development has unfolded for farmers engaged in Arhar (Toor) cultivation as the prices of Arhar dal are on the rise, following the recent growth in wheat prices. Pigeon pea prices are witnessing a continuous increase across the country's markets, with most surpassing the Minimum Support Price (MSP). This growth in prices translates to better profits for farmers involved in Arhar cultivation. Over the past month, the prices of Arhar dal have escalated by more than 10 percent, with market experts foreseeing further increments.
Currently, the prices of pigeon peas have exceeded the MSP in a majority of the mandis, with the Central Government setting the MSP for Arhar (Toor) dal at Rs 7000 per quintal. Notably, the price of pigeon pea has soared to Rs 18,000 per quintal. According to Agmarknet data from the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the highest price for Arhar (Toor) dal was recorded at Rs 18,000 per quintal in Bishanpur and Lamlong markets of Gujarat.
Similarly, in other significant markets across the nation, Arhar dal prices have remained notably higher than the MSP. For instance, in the Chauri Chaura mandi of Uttar Pradesh, Arhar dal was sold at Rs 15,000 per quintal, while in Agra mandi, it fetched Rs 14,200 per quintal. The average price of Arhar (Toor) dal was between Rs 8500 to Rs 12,000 per quintal, significantly exceeding the MSP.

The prices of pigeon peas in various major markets across different states in India are as follows: -
Market analysts predict a further escalation in the prices of Arhar (Toor) dal in the foreseeable future, considering the current upward trajectory. This expectation stems from the ongoing trend of rising prices and the sustained demand for Arhar dal.
The rise in Arhar dal prices, exceeding the Minimum Support Price, signals favorable conditions for farmers. With prices soaring above Rs 18,000 per quintal, supported by the sustained demand, experts anticipate continued upward momentum. Pigeon pea prices also fluctuate, with an average of Rs 10,081.63 per quintal across major markets.
