Volvo FH Electric truck won the International Truck of the Year 2024 award. Volvo India is aiming for its vehicles to be 50% fossil fuel free by 2030 and 100% carbon emission free by 2040.

Volvo FH Electric, a heavy electric truck by Volvo, received the 'International Truck of the Year Award’ last. The decision making jury praised its seamless acceleration, powerful performance and noise and vibration free qualities.
The President of Volvo Trucks - Roger Alm received the prestigious award in the prize ceremony at the Solutrans Transport Exhibition in Lyon, France.
After receiving the award, Roger Alm said, “I am so very proud that our Volvo FH Electric has won this highly respected award. For the first time in history, the transport industry has chosen an electric vehicle as Truck of the Year. The Volvo FH Electric represents a new era in trucking and winning this award clearly shows that the shift to zero emission transport is happening here and now.”

Gianenrico Griffini, Chairman of the International Truck of the Year Award, said, “With the introduction of the FH Electric, Volvo Trucks has delivered a state-of-the-art battery electric vehicle range, suitable for a wide array of transport operations. It's proof that the energy transition is gaining strength even in today's challenging business environment.”
The International Truck of the Year organisation was created back in 1977 and it consists of 24 commercial vehicle journalists and magazines based in Europe. The award is given yearly to a single truck that contributes the most to the industry. The criteria for the award are also wide including safety, comfort, innovation, efficiency and environmental impact of the truck.

Volvo India has set a target to have 50% of their vehicles to be run on non-fossil fuel by 2030. The company is also aiming to become net zero in terms of carbon emissions by 2040 as said by the President and Managing Director of Volvo Group India.
Kamal Bali, President and MD of Volvo Group India, at the Digital Acceleration and Transformation Expo (DATE), said, “At Volvo, we have set target that by 2030, 50% of our vehicles will be non-fossil fuel based. They will be non polluting. Balance 50% will become non zero emission by 2040.”
