  • The initiative aims to onboard 50,000 drivers and promote EV adoption in India.

Urja Mobility has introduced a new Battery Leasing Program aimed at e-rickshaw drivers in ten Indian cities. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden of battery ownership through an affordable and flexible leasing model.

Key Details:

Leasing Model: Drivers can pay a monthly fee for high-performance Lithium-Ion batteries, with the option to own the battery after 12 to 24 months.

Cities Covered for the first Phase: Agra, Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Siliguri, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, and Puri, chosen for their high EV adoption rates and tourist traffic.

Benefits of Lithium-Ion Batteries: Longer life cycles, reduced maintenance, and better thermal performance than Lead Acid batteries.

Advanced Technology: Includes Battery Management Systems (BMS) with data analytics and AI for monitoring health, predicting issues, and optimizing performance.

Support Infrastructure: Service centers in each city for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, aiming for high vehicle uptime.

Market Impact: Targets 50,000 e-rickshaw drivers to switch from Lead Acid to Lithium-Ion batteries, promoting economic and environmental benefits.

Alignment with Goals: Supports India's goal of electrifying 100% of commercial three-wheelers by 2030, enhancing sustainability in transportation.

Founder’s Perspective: Pankaj Chopra highlighted the initiative’s significance in advancing affordable electric mobility, highlighting its role in overcoming adoption barriers. This initiative underscores Urja Mobility’s commitment to sustainable transportation solutions in India.

About Urja Mobility

Urja Mobility, a brand owned by MTOW Mobility Private Limited in New Delhi, is backed by Mufin Green Finance Limited, a leading NBFC specializing in green financing. The collaboration focuses on advanced Lithium-Ion batteries designed for commercial electric vehicles, including three-wheelers (E3W) and two-wheelers (E2W).

India's market for electric three-wheelers stands at 750,000 units annually, with nearly 30% requiring battery replacements each year. Additionally, 5 million gig workers rely on last-mile delivery, a number expected to grow to 12–14 million by 2030, with 100% adoption of electric two-wheelers envisioned.
