Urban Sphere aims to position India as the next Green Transportation Ecosystem for manufacturing and supplying electric buses globally.
Urban Sphere, an Indian company, has recently unveiled its Ivoryline 9m electric bus (e-bus) series during the SIAT Expo 2024 at the Pune International Exhibition and Convention Centre. This significant stride towards sustainable transportation aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Collaboration: Urban Sphere partnered with Hanif Qureshi, Joint Secretary of the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries, for this launch.
Indigenous Manufacturing: 70% of the Ivoryline e-bus is developed and manufactured in India, in collaboration with MSMEs (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises).
Green Mobility Solutions: Urban Sphere aims to position India as the next Green Transportation Ecosystem for manufacturing and supplying electric buses globally.
Following the launch, Urban Sphere signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs):
The Ivoryline e-bus is powered by a 180 kWh motor and a state-of-the-art 193.1 kWh LFP battery pack. This combination enables the bus to achieve an impressive range of 300 kilometers on a single charge, setting a new benchmark for electric buses in the industry.
One of the most exciting features of the Ivoryline series is its rapid charging capability. With a 250 kWh fast charger, the bus can replenish up to 80% of its battery capacity in just 45 minutes, making it exceptionally convenient for operators and ensuring minimal downtime. It has a 9m electric skateboard chassis, named MULA (Modular Unified Ladder Architecture).
By offering a high-performing electric bus series, the company aims to revolutionize urban mobility while significantly reducing carbon footprint and enhancing air quality in cities.
Expansion into the Philippines
Urban Sphere's expansion continues as it secures another order to supply Ivoryline 6m electric buses to the Philippines. With a commitment to deliver over 50,000 units in the next decade, this venture marks a significant milestone in the company's growth trajectory.
CEO Karthik Athreya emphasized that 70% of the Ivoryline series is developed and manufactured in India in collaboration with Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This highlights Urban Sphere's dedication to fostering growth within the MSME sector while promoting local manufacturing. The Vassanthanarsapura Industrial Area in Tumkur District, Karnataka, played a pivotal role in bringing this product to fruition.
Alignment with the 'Make in India' Initiative
Urban Sphere's commitment to local manufacturing aligns seamlessly with the government's 'Make in India' initiative, further strengthening the nation's self-reliance and economic resilience.
Urban Sphere's initiatives signify a significant leap towards sustainable transportation. By prioritizing indigenous manufacturing and partnering with MSMEs, the company is not only transforming the transport landscape but also contributing to economic growth and environmental sustainability.
As the world moves towards an electric future, companies like Urban Sphere are paving the way for cleaner, greener, and more sustainable transportation solutions, setting a benchmark for the industry to follow.
