Uber launches intercity bus ticket booking in India for the first time globally.
Partnership with AbhiBus, part of Ixigo, for bus inventory and ticketing.
Users get 25% discount up to ₹200 on their first bus booking.
Safety features include real-time location sharing and a 24-hour helpline.
Service available directly through the Uber app with multiple payment options.
Ride-hailing platform Uber has launched intercity bus ticket booking on its app in India, making the country the first market globally where the company is introducing this service. The new feature allows users to search, compare, and book long-distance bus journeys directly through the Uber app.
With this move, Uber is expanding its intercity travel services beyond cars, giving users more options for planning long-distance trips.
For this service, Uber has partnered with AbhiBus, the bus-ticketing platform owned by travel company Ixigo.
Through this collaboration, AbhiBus will provide its bus inventory and ticketing technology, while Uber will use its large user base and app platform to distribute the service.
Uber said the partnership combines AbhiBus’s expertise in bus ticketing with Uber’s digital reach, making it easier for travelers to book long-distance buses.
To promote the new feature, Uber is offering special discounts to users booking bus tickets through the app.
25% discount (up to ₹200) on the first intercity bus booking
10% discount (up to ₹100) on each of the next three bookings
These offers are aimed at encouraging users to try the new intercity bus service.
The bus booking feature includes several safety tools already available on the Uber platform. These include:
Real-time location sharing
A 24-hour safety helpline
Dedicated trip support
These features are designed to improve passenger safety during long-distance travel.
According to Praveen Neppalli Naga, Chief Technology Officer at Uber, India plays a major role in the company’s global innovation strategy. He said that many technologies developed in India help shape Uber’s global product roadmap.
Meanwhile, Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, highlighted that improving highway infrastructure in India is boosting long-distance road travel. He added that digital platforms like Uber will play a bigger role in how people plan and book journeys in the future.
Users can book bus tickets directly through the Uber app by following these steps:
Select “Intercity Buses” on the home screen
Enter origin and destination
Choose the preferred bus and seat
Complete payment using UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking
Once the booking is complete, users receive ticket confirmation via email and WhatsApp.
Uber has been operating in India since 2013 and currently offers services in more than 125 cities. Along with over 3,000 city-to-city car routes, the new bus ticketing feature further strengthens Uber’s intercity travel portfolio.
