UltraTech Rolls Out 45 Electric Trucks, Set to Replace 2.9 Million Litres of Diesel Annually

Key Highlights

  • UltraTech deploys 45 electric heavy-duty trucks for clinker transport.

  • Trucks will operate on a 250-km route across Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

  • Each electric truck offers a payload capacity of 55 tonnes.

  • The fleet is expected to cut over 8,900 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

  • The initiative will replace nearly 2.9 million litres of diesel every year.

UltraTech Cement Limited has started deploying 45 electric heavy-duty trucks for clinker transportation in northern India. The initiative has been launched in partnership with Energy In Motion (EIM) and is considered one of the largest electric heavy-duty trucking deployments in the cement sector in the region.

The move strengthens UltraTech's commitment to sustainable logistics and supports the wider adoption of zero-emission transportation solutions in India's commercial vehicle sector.

Electric Trucks to Cover 250 km Across Three States

Under this initiative, the electric trucks will transport clinkers from UltraTech's Kotputli Cement Works in Rajasthan to its Dadri Cement Works and Sikandarabad Cement Works located in the Delhi-NCR region.

The trucks will operate on a 250-kilometre route that passes through Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Each vehicle in the fleet is designed to carry a payload of up to 55 tonnes, making it suitable for heavy-duty cement transportation operations.

Significant Reduction in Carbon Emissions

The deployment is expected to deliver major environmental benefits. According to the company, the fleet is projected to reduce more than 8,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

In addition, the electric trucks are expected to replace nearly 2.9 million litres of diesel consumption every year. This reduction will help lower the carbon footprint of cement transportation while supporting cleaner freight movement across the region.

Partnership to Demonstrate Long-Haul Electric Trucking

The deployment follows a transport service agreement signed between UltraTech, Energy In Motion, and a logistics service provider.

Company officials said the project is an important step toward demonstrating the commercial viability of long-haul electric trucking in India. The initiative also aligns with the Indian government's efforts to promote zero-emission commercial transportation and build supporting infrastructure for sustainable mobility.

UltraTech's Growing Green Logistics Fleet

UltraTech has been steadily expanding its use of alternative-fuel and low-emission vehicles over the past few years.

The company introduced compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks in 2021, followed by liquefied natural gas (LNG) trucks in 2022. Electric trucks were added to its logistics network in 2024 as part of its ongoing sustainability strategy.

As of FY 2025-26, UltraTech's green transportation fleet includes:

  • 638 CNG trucks

  • 32 LNG trucks

  • 89 electric trucks

With the addition of the new electric fleet, the company now operates more than 750 green trucks across its manufacturing network.

Supporting Net-Zero Goals

UltraTech Cement Limited, the cement flagship of the Aditya Birla Group, is the world's largest cement company outside China by sales volume. The company has a total grey cement production capacity of 205.5 million tonnes per annum.

UltraTech is also a signatory to the Global Cement and Concrete Association's Climate Ambition 2050 and has committed to the Net Zero Concrete roadmap. The latest deployment of electric heavy-duty trucks reflects the company's continued focus on reducing emissions and building a more sustainable logistics ecosystem for the cement industry.

CMV360 Says

The deployment of 45 electric heavy-duty trucks marks another major milestone in UltraTech's sustainability journey. By replacing millions of litres of diesel and reducing thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions each year, the project highlights the growing potential of electric freight transportation in India. The initiative not only strengthens UltraTech's green logistics network but also demonstrates how large-scale industries can accelerate the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions.
