India’s three-wheeler market is growing, with retail sales showing strong demand. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), three-wheeler sales in India increased by 5.5% recently, mainly due to higher demand for passenger carriers. This passenger carriers segment alone grew by 9.3%, reaching 5,51,880 units. Experts had predicted a 5-8% growth for FY2025, and the latest sales figures confirm this trend. The rising demand is due to increasing urban transport needs and last-mile delivery services.

The three-wheeler market is growing steadily, driven by demand for passenger and cargo transport. Here are the few key highlights of the sales figures:

  • Three-wheeler sales increased by 5.5%, according to FADA data.
  • Passenger carrier sales increased by 9.3%, reaching 5,51,880 units.
  • Experts expect the industry to grow by 6-8% in FY2025 -26.
  • Urban transport needs and commercial use are boosting the market.
  • The three-wheeler sector's growth aligns with the overall automobile industry trends.
  • In 2024, passenger vehicle sales grew by 4.2%, reaching 4.3 million units.
  • SUV sales increased by 17% to 2.7 million units, while passenger car sales dropped by 14.4% to 1.37 million units.

  • Commercial vehicles saw a 1.2% increase.
  • Scooter sales surged by 19.7% to 66,75,231 units.

The growing use of electric three-wheelers, government incentives, and rising demand for last-mile transport are expected to drive sales further. Due to increasing urban travel needs, passenger carriers will likely remain the key growth factor. With an estimated 6-8% growth in FY2025- 26, the Indian three-wheeler market is set to continue its strong momentum, playing a vital role in commercial and passenger transportation.

CMV360 Says

The growth in India’s three-wheeler market is impressive, and it's clear that demand is rising, especially for passenger carriers. The 6-8% growth forecast for FY2025 -26 shows that the three-wheelers segment is on the positive side. It’s interesting to see how urban transport needs and last-mile connectivity are fueling this growth. The shift towards electric three-wheelers could further speed up this growth. However, it’ll be crucial to see if the market can sustain this momentum with increasing competition and changing consumer needs.
