Tata Motors, India's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has successfully delivered 100 state-of-the-art Starbus Electric buses (EVs) to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).
The milestone marks the beginning of a comprehensive agreement between TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., a subsidiary of Tata Motors, and BMTC, encompassing the supply, operation, and maintenance of 921 advanced 12-metre low-floor electric buses over 12 years.
The Starbus EVs are equipped with advanced features such as electronic stability control, electronic brake distribution, air suspension, Intelligent Transport System, panic button, and more, making them a benchmark for technological expertise in the electric bus segment.
Karnataka Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar along with other respected government officials were present at the inauguration ceremony. The event highlighted the commitment of Tata Motors to the sustainable transformation of public transportation.
"We are delighted to receive Tata Motors' state-of-the-art buses after completing prototype trials of Tata's electric buses within the city," stated Ms G Sathyavathi, IAS, Managing Director, BMTC.
TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited CEO and MD Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay shared his confidence in the positive impact of these buses on BMTC's fleet, stating, "We are convinced that our buses will help to enhance the BMTC fleet and make public transit safer, more pleasant, technologically advanced, and energy-efficient. These buses were created and constructed in cutting-edge facilities, and they have been carefully tested and verified in a variety of conditions."

Tata Motors has supplied over 1,500 electric buses across different cities in India, with a total mileage of more than 10 million kilometers and an uptime of more than 95%.
The successful delivery of these electric buses signifies Tata Motors' commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation solutions. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, Tata Motors remains a key player in driving the future of urban mobility in India.
