SWITCH Mobility has dispatched the first batch of 10 electric buses from its 100-unit order to Mauritius, marking a significant step in India’s commitment to clean transport and strengthening bilateral ties. This initiative is part of a special Government-to-Government gift from India to Mauritius, supporting the shared vision of sustainable mobility.
Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, the Indian High Commissioner, and dignitaries from both countries attended the ceremonial event in Mauritius. The electric buses will be operated by the National Transport Corporation (NTC), Mauritius’ state-run public transport provider.
Manufactured at SWITCH Mobility’s advanced facility in Chennai, the EiV12 electric buses are designed for short to medium-range city travel. Each bus offers seating for up to 45 passengers and includes modern safety features such as a fire detection and suppression system, intelligent telematics, and a dual-gun charging setup for faster depot charging.
The buses are powered by floor-mounted LFP batteries, which improve on-road stability and safety, a key factor in urban stop-and-go traffic. Their design blends global styling with Indian engineering, ensuring they are well-suited for public transport needs.
The order was awarded through an open tender managed by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) in India. SWITCH Mobility’s EiV12 model was selected for its technological strength, passenger comfort, and energy efficiency.
The introduction of these buses is expected to contribute significantly to the electrification of Mauritius’ bus fleet, helping lower the island’s carbon emissions. This partnership also lays the foundation for future clean transport collaborations between the two nations.
RG Venkataraman, Chief Commercial Officer at SWITCH Mobility, said the project demonstrates SWITCH’s capability to deliver advanced, reliable, and user-friendly electric mobility solutions. He emphasised that this is a step towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals shared by both India and Mauritius.
