Ahead of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's 150th birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 25 new electric buses worth ₹30 crore at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Narmada district. The launch marks another big step toward eco-friendly tourism and sustainable transportation in the region.

With the addition of these new e-buses, Ekta Nagar now has a total of 55 electric buses running across the area. These buses are available free of cost for tourists, ensuring a comfortable, modern, and environmentally friendly travel experience.
The initiative aims to make Ekta Nagar India’s first model “E-City”, reflecting Prime Minister Modi’s larger vision of clean mobility and sustainable development.
The newly introduced 9-metre-long air-conditioned e-buses can travel up to 180 km on a single charge. These buses are designed to be inclusive and user-friendly, featuring special accessibility systems for differently-abled passengers, including a hydraulic lift for easy boarding and exit.
Additionally, each bus includes four pink seats reserved for women, ensuring comfort, convenience, and safety for female travelers.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Ekta Nagar is not just a tourist destination; it is a living example of environmental consciousness and sustainable growth. The addition of e-buses will ensure cleaner air, lower noise pollution, and modern amenities for visitors.”
The Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SOUADTGA) has been steadily working to make Ekta Nagar a carbon-neutral and sustainable zone. Under the ‘India’s First E-City’ initiative, various electric modes of transport such as e-cars, e-rickshaws, and e-buses have been introduced.
Originally announced by PM Modi on World Environment Day in 2021, the initiative has transformed Ekta Nagar into a symbol of green innovation and eco-tourism.
Now, visitors can travel around the Statue of Unity complex and nearby attractions using free, clean electric transport, helping create a pollution-free environment.
Guided by the Prime Minister’s vision, Ekta Nagar continues to evolve as a global example of harmony between sustainability, innovation, and tourism. It showcases how green mobility can enhance both environmental protection and visitor experience.
To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a grand celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) will be held on October 31 at Ekta Nagar, announced Minister and State Spokesperson Jitu Vaghani.
The launch of these 25 e-buses not only strengthens the green transport infrastructure at the Statue of Unity but also reaffirms India’s commitment to building a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable future for tourism.
