Maize Prices Stay Strong Across India as South India Buying and Industrial Demand Boost Market

Key Highlights

  • South India buying keeps maize prices firm.

  • Madhya Pradesh prices reach ₹2,720 per quintal.

  • Bihar and Maharashtra markets remain strong.

  • Weak monsoon limits supply across states.

  • Industrial demand boosts farmer returns.

Maize prices continue to remain firm across major markets in India, giving farmers better returns for their produce. Strong buying from South India, limited arrivals due to a weak monsoon, and rising demand from the poultry, starch, and ethanol industries are supporting the market.

Market experts believe there are currently no signs of a major price correction, and maize prices are expected to stay stable to firm over the next few days.

Why Maize Prices Are Rising

The maize market is being supported by a combination of strong demand and limited supply. Farmers in many major producing states are selling less maize because uncertainty over the new crop remains due to below-normal monsoon conditions in several regions.

At the same time, industrial buyers continue to purchase maize regularly, keeping demand high and supporting prices across the country.

Better Prices for Farmers in Madhya Pradesh

Farmers in Madhya Pradesh are receiving improved prices for maize. In many mandis, prices are around ₹2,425 per quintal, while trade deals are taking place between ₹2,600 and ₹2,720 per quintal.

Strong industrial demand and limited arrivals in the state have helped keep the market firm.

Bihar and Maharashtra Markets Remain Strong

Demand for maize remains healthy in Bihar, where prices at Gulab Bagh Mandi are ranging between ₹2,200 and ₹2,360 per quintal. Active buyers and lower local arrivals have supported prices.

Maharashtra is also witnessing a strong maize market due to continuous industrial buying. Prices at rack points are between ₹2,500 and ₹2,650 per quintal. Major mandi prices include:

  • Sangli: Around ₹2,610 per quintal

  • Nashik: Around ₹2,585 per quintal

  • Dhule: Around ₹2,500 per quintal

North India Market Remains Stable

Maize markets in North India are currently stable. Demand from buyers in Punjab and Haryana remains moderate, while balanced local arrivals have prevented major price fluctuations.

Traders expect prices in these markets to remain within the current range until fresh crop arrivals begin.

South India Buying Continues to Support the Market

Experts say continuous buying from South India's poultry, starch, and ethanol industries is one of the biggest reasons behind the strength in maize prices.

This steady industrial demand is supporting markets across India and helping farmers receive better prices for their produce.

Global Market Signals Remain Mixed

International maize markets are showing mixed trends as investors closely monitor weather conditions and export developments in the United States.

However, despite global volatility, the Indian maize market remains strong because of healthy domestic demand and limited supplies.

Maize Price Outlook

According to market experts, maize prices are likely to remain firm in the near term if the weak monsoon continues and farmers maintain limited selling. Strong industrial demand is expected to provide additional support.

However, if weather conditions improve and fresh crop arrivals increase, the market could witness some easing in prices. For now, strong buying from South India and tight supplies continue to create a positive environment for maize farmers, with prices expected to remain strong in the coming days.

CMV360 Says

Maize prices are expected to remain firm in the short term as strong buying from South India, limited farmer selling, and rising industrial demand continue to support the market. Farmers in key producing states are benefiting from better prices, especially in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. However, the market could soften if monsoon conditions improve and fresh crop arrivals increase. Until then, the overall outlook for maize remains positive.
