Maize Arrivals Increase at Gulabbag Mandi

According to the latest market report released on September 8, maize arrivals remain strong at Gulabbag Mandi in Purnia, Bihar. Farmers are actively bringing their produce to the market, resulting in increased movement of trucks and tractors.

Despite higher arrivals, stockists have increased their purchases. Traders believe that rising demand from poultry farms, starch manufacturers and other industries could provide further support to maize prices.

On Monday, maize prices at Gulabbag Mandi were:

  • Premium quality: ₹2,450 to ₹2,560 per quintal

  • Medium quality: ₹2,350 to ₹2,460 per quintal

  • Weak quality: ₹2,020 to ₹2,330 per quintal

Will Maize Prices Rise Further?

Industrial demand could become the biggest factor supporting maize prices. Maize is widely used as poultry feed, while starch manufacturers and other processing industries also purchase large quantities.

However, the arrival of the new Kharif crop will increase market supply. Therefore, maize prices may not move in one direction across the country.

Markets receiving heavy arrivals could face price pressure. On the other hand, mandis located near major poultry, starch and processing industries may continue to receive strong buying support.

How Much Maize Was Sown This Year?

Kharif maize sowing will also play an important role in determining future prices.

As of July 17, 2026, maize was sown on approximately 6.789 million hectares across India. This was around 5% lower than the 7.15 million hectares recorded during the same period last year.

Maize acreage increased in Madhya Pradesh, but sowing declined in major producing states, including:

  • Karnataka

  • Maharashtra

  • Rajasthan

  • Uttar Pradesh

Lower overall acreage could support the market if production is affected, but weather conditions and the actual size of the harvest will remain important factors.

Advice for Maize Farmers

Farmers should avoid making selling decisions based only on a single day's market price. Before selling, they should check local arrivals, maize quality and buyer demand.

Instead of holding the entire crop in the expectation of a major price increase, farmers with sufficient storage capacity may consider selling their produce in stages according to their financial needs and market conditions.

CMV360 Says

India's maize market is entering an important phase as new crop arrivals increase across major mandis. Strong demand from poultry, starch and processing industries may support good-quality maize prices. However, rising supply could limit gains in markets receiving heavy arrivals. Future prices will depend on crop quality, weather, industrial demand and new arrivals. Farmers should monitor local mandi conditions and consider phased selling instead of depending on expectations of a sudden price surge.
