Mahindra & Mahindra Reports Decline in Net Profit for Q1 FY2025

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd announced a 5% decline in its standalone net profit for the first quarter of the financial year 2025 compared to the same period last year. The company's net profit was Rs 2,613 crore, down from Rs 2,759 crore in the previous year.

Key Financial Highlights

Revenue Growth: Revenue from operations increased by 11% to Rs 27,133 crore.

Operating Profit: Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) grew by 16% to Rs 4,116 crore. The operating profit margin improved to 14.9% from 13.6%.

Vehicle Sales: Total vehicle sales rose by 11% to 2.12 lakh units, with passenger vehicle sales up by 24% to 124,248 units. Commercial vehicle sales grew by just 2% to 62,522 units, partly due to disruptions from the general election.

Segment Performance

Farm Equipment: Tractor sales increased by 5% to 1.20 lakh units.

Market Share: M&M gained market share in both its auto and farm businesses, achieving record quarterly tractor volumes. The company retained a 21.6% market share in SUVs and over 50% in light commercial vehicles under 3.5 tonnes.

Cost and Expenses

Total expenses rose by 10% to Rs 23,984 crore, with material costs increasing by 11% to Rs 18,411 crore. Other income fell by around 60% to Rs 257.55 crore, while tax expenses rose to Rs 793.59 crore from Rs 581.92 crore.

Despite the decline in net profit, Mahindra & Mahindra’s strong performance in vehicle sales and operational efficiency highlights its resilience. The growth in revenue and EBITDA, along with market share gains, suggests that the company is effectively navigating challenges and positioning itself well for future growth. 

The decline in net profit, attributed to one-time gains last year, is less concerning in the context of its robust operational metrics.
