Key Highlights:
The Maharashtra government has introduced a new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2025, aiming to boost the use of EVs and reduce air pollution. The policy was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
EV Policy Highlights
This policy will remain in effect until 2030 and includes toll waivers, subsidies, and infrastructure development. The state has allocated ₹1,993 crore to support the initiative. Electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, private four-wheelers, state transport electric buses, and vehicles under civic transport bodies will receive a 10% subsidy on their purchase price. Goods-carrying EVs and electric tractors will get a 15% subsidy.
Toll fees for EVs will be waived on major expressways like the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Atal Setu, and Samruddhi Mahamarg. On other state and national highways, tolls will be reduced by 50% for electric four-wheelers and buses. Additionally, the policy removes registration charges for EVs, further lowering the cost of ownership for buyers.
Charging Infrastructure to Improve
To increase the use of EVs, the policy plans to expand the charging infrastructure. Charging stations will be set up every 25 km along national highways. Urban areas will also see better access to chargers, making daily use more practical for EV owners.
Clean Mobility Transition Model
The state will also implement the Clean Mobility Transition Model, which encourages the purchase of EVs through special incentives. This model aims to help Maharashtra meet its long-term pollution control and sustainability goals.
Tata Motors Welcomes the Move
Tata Motors praised the policy, calling it forward-thinking. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said that this move makes Maharashtra a leader in clean mobility.
He noted that easier access to charging and lower costs from toll waivers will help more people shift to electric vehicles. He also highlighted that the continued road tax and registration benefits offer long-term value for both consumers and manufacturers. Tata Motors has expressed its support for the policy and plans to grow its EV lineup while working on infrastructure projects with the state.

CMV360 Says
Maharashtra’s EV Policy 2025 sets a strong example for other states. By combining financial incentives, infrastructure development, and industry collaboration, the state aims to make electric vehicles a practical and affordable choice for all. Lower costs, better charging, and support for all types of EVs can motivate more people to switch from fuel-based vehicles. If implemented well, this policy could help improve air quality and position Maharashtra as a model for other states.
