The Haryana government has introduced a personal accident insurance scheme for farmers holding a Kisan Credit Card (KCC), offering insurance coverage of up to ₹50,000 at a nominal annual contribution of just ₹0.63 per farmer. The initiative aims to provide financial security to farmers and their families in the event of accidental death or permanent disability.

The scheme will be implemented for the financial year 2026-27 and is expected to benefit approximately 5 lakh eligible KCC-holder farmers across Haryana. The initiative has been introduced under the guidance of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and the leadership of Cooperation Minister Dr. Arvind Sharma.

The Haryana State Cooperative Apex Bank Limited (HARCO Bank) will oversee the implementation of the scheme in collaboration with Central Cooperative Banks (CCBs) and IFFCO-Tokio General Insurance Company Limited.

To implement the initiative, HARCO Bank has signed a tripartite agreement with Central Cooperative Banks and IFFCO-Tokio General Insurance Company Limited. The scheme was finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by HARCO Bank Managing Director Sushil Sarwan.

Both small and large farmers with eligible, active KCC accounts can benefit from the scheme. The insurance cover will remain valid for one year under the 2026-27 arrangement.

How Much Accident Insurance Will KCC Farmers Receive?

The insurance amount will depend on the nature and severity of the injury caused by an accident. The scheme covers physical injuries resulting from external, violent and visible accidents.

How to Claim KCC Accident Insurance in Haryana

Farmers or their families must follow the prescribed claim procedure to receive insurance benefits. The first important requirement is to inform the relevant insurance company or bank branch in writing within 120 days of the accident.

The required supporting documents must also be submitted for claim settlement. Farmers and their families should keep the relevant records ready to avoid delays in processing the claim.

Documents Required for an Insurance Claim

The documents required will depend on the nature of the accident.

  • For accidental death: A copy of the police report, such as an FIR or DDR, and a post-mortem report issued by a government hospital.

  • For permanent disability: A valid disability certificate.

  • Other documents: Legal heir certificate, Aadhaar card and the farmer's KCC bank account passbook.

The claimant should submit the applicable documents to the concerned bank branch or insurance company in accordance with the claim procedure.

HARCO Bank and the respective cooperative banks will facilitate insurance coverage for eligible farmers under the scheme. Farmers should contact their KCC-issuing cooperative bank to confirm their eligibility, premium contribution and claim-related requirements.

What the KCC Accident Insurance Scheme Means for Farmers

The Haryana government's initiative offers a low-cost way to provide financial protection to farming families against the consequences of serious accidents. With a total annual premium of ₹1.90, of which the farmer pays just ₹0.63, the scheme reduces the individual cost of obtaining accident coverage.

The insurance benefit can provide financial assistance of up to ₹50,000 in eligible cases, helping families manage some of the immediate financial challenges arising from accidental death or permanent disability. Farmers should ensure that their KCC accounts are active and remember the 120-day deadline for reporting an accident.
