Delhi-based JBM Auto Limited emerged as the leading electric bus manufacturer in India in May 2026, registering 157 electric buses during the month. According to data available on the government's Vahan portal, the company captured a 49% share of the country's electric bus market, highlighting its strong position in the rapidly growing zero-emission public transport sector.
The latest performance marks a significant improvement from April 2026, when JBM Auto held a 33% market share. With this achievement, the company has continued its market leadership streak that began in the previous financial year.
Industry experts noted that May's registration numbers should also be viewed in the context of a major data update. For the first time, electric vehicle registration data from Telangana was incorporated into the Vahan portal.
The inclusion of Telangana's figures has provided a more comprehensive picture of electric bus registrations across India and contributed to the increase in reported industry volumes during the month.
JBM Auto operates what it describes as the world's largest dedicated integrated electric bus manufacturing facility outside China. Located in the National Capital Region (NCR), the plant has an annual production capacity of 20,000 buses.
The large-scale manufacturing capability has helped the company meet growing demand from state transport undertakings and public transport operators across the country as India accelerates its shift toward cleaner mobility solutions.
JBM Auto stated that its electric bus fleet has achieved several major milestones. According to the company, its buses have collectively traveled more than 400 million electric kilometers and transported over one billion passengers.
The company also claims that its electric mobility solutions have helped avoid more than one billion kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, supporting India's environmental and sustainability goals.
JBM Auto attributed its strong market performance to its advanced manufacturing capabilities and innovative electric bus platforms. The company said its buses are built using high-strength, lightweight designs that improve efficiency for both urban and intercity public transportation.
By leveraging global technologies and expanding production capabilities, JBM Auto continues to strengthen its position in India's fast-growing electric mobility market while supporting the transition to sustainable public transport.
