Acting on the directions of Collector Raghavendra Singh, the Agriculture Department carried out surprise inspections at fertilizer shops across the district.

During the inspection campaign, authorities registered FIRs against two agriculture centre operators after serious irregularities were found. In another significant action, officials seized 60 bags of suspected DAP fertilizer from a mini truck in the Panagar area. Samples of the seized fertilizer have been sent to a laboratory for quality testing.

The administration has also appealed to farmers to remain alert while purchasing DAP fertilizer to avoid financial losses caused by counterfeit or substandard products.

According to the Agriculture Department, the demand for fertilizers rises sharply during the Kharif sowing season. Along with this increased demand, complaints related to black marketing, overpricing, and fake fertilizers were also being received from farmers.

Based on these complaints, the department launched a district-wide special inspection campaign to identify violations and ensure that fertilizers are sold at government-approved prices.

Deputy Director of Agriculture Umesh Kumar Kathare said that several inspection teams conducted surprise checks at different agriculture centres following complaints from farmers.

The inspections revealed multiple serious violations, leading to FIRs against two agriculture centre operators. The department has initiated further legal proceedings and stated that strict action will continue against anyone found compromising farmers' interests.

60 Bags of Suspected DAP Fertilizer Seized

As part of the inspection drive, an Agriculture Department team stopped and inspected a mini truck in the Panagar area. During the search, officials recovered 60 bags of DAP fertilizer that appeared suspicious during preliminary examination.

The fertilizer bags were seized immediately, and samples were sent to a laboratory for detailed testing. If laboratory reports confirm that the fertilizer is counterfeit or of substandard quality, legal action will be taken against the fertilizer seller, vehicle owner, and buyer under the Fertilizer Control Order and other applicable laws.

He added that fertilizer dealers across the district are under continuous surveillance, and strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in selling counterfeit fertilizers, overcharging customers, or engaging in illegal fertilizer trade.

The department confirmed that its special inspection campaign will continue throughout the Kharif season, and any complaint related to fake fertilizers, black marketing, or overpricing will be acted upon immediately.
