India’s three-wheeler market saw 29% year-over-year growth in February 2026, led by passenger carriers. Goods carriers and electric subsegments also expanded, with exports rising 49% compared to February 2025.

​​The Indian three-wheeler market recorded significant growth in February 2026, with domestic sales rising 29% year over year. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), 74,573 three-wheelers were sold in India last month, up from 57,788 units in February 2025. Total three-wheeler production reached 1,08,154 units, marking a 29.9% increase from 83,252 units a year earlier.

Passenger Carrier Segment Leads Growth

The passenger carrier segment, which includes autorickshaws, contributed the most to the three-wheeler market’s expansion. In February 2026, 92,514 passenger carrier units were produced, a 29% increase from 71,693 units in February 2025. Domestic sales of passenger carrier autorickshaws reached 60,013 units, up 30.1% from 46,111 units sold in the same month last year. Exports in this subsegment also grew, with 38,451 units shipped in February 2026, a 48.9% rise from 25,825 units the previous year.

Goods Carrier and Electric Subsegments

The goods carrier subsegment was the second-largest contributor to overall growth. Production of goods carriers rose 31.4% year over year to 13,751 units, compared to 10,465 units in February 2025. Domestic sales for goods carriers reached 13,271 units, up 25.2% from 10,603 units in the previous year. Exports in this category increased by 57.3%, with 313 units exported in February 2026 compared to 199 units in February 2025.

The e-rickshaw subsegment saw the highest production growth, with output increasing 110.8% year over year. Manufacturers produced 1,370 e-rickshaw units in February 2026, up from 650 units in February 2025. Domestic e-rickshaw sales also rose 20.1% to 890 units, compared to 741 units in the same month last year.

The battery-operated e-cart subsegment, though the smallest, also showed growth. Production increased 16.9% to 519 units, up from 444 units in February 2025. Domestic sales of e-carts reached 399 units, a 19.8% rise from 333 units sold in February 2025.

Export Performance and Market Outlook

Exports of three-wheelers from India grew 49% year over year. In February 2026, 38,766 units were exported, compared to 26,024 units in February 2025. Combined domestic sales and exports totaled 1,13,339 units in February 2026, surpassing the month’s production figure.

Both passenger and goods carriers contributed to the export growth. SIAM’s data highlights the ongoing expansion and diversification of India’s three-wheeler market across passenger, cargo, and electric segments.
