EKA Mobility, one of India's leading electric commercial vehicle manufacturers, has achieved a significant milestone by rolling out its 1,000th Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) from its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The achievement was announced on World Environment Day, highlighting the company's growing contribution to India's clean and sustainable transportation sector.
Backed by Dutch industrial group VDL Groep and Japan's Mitsui & Co., EKA Mobility said the milestone reflects the increasing demand for zero-emission commercial vehicles, especially in urban logistics, passenger transport, e-commerce deliveries, FMCG distribution, and last-mile transportation.
As part of the celebrations, EKA Mobility delivered its 1,000th vehicle, the EKA 6S electric passenger three-wheeler, to the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust in Pune, a well-known charitable organization engaged in various social welfare activities.
The EKA 6S is designed to accommodate a driver and six passengers and is claimed by the company to be India's first steering-wheel passenger electric three-wheeler in this seating configuration. The vehicle will be used to support the trust's community service initiatives, combining sustainable mobility with social impact.
Adding an international dimension to the event, EKA Mobility also presented an EKA 3S electric three-wheeler to H.E. Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to India.
The gesture highlighted the strong partnership between India and the Netherlands in promoting sustainable transportation solutions. It also reflects EKA Mobility's strategic relationship with VDL Groep, one of its key investors and partners based in the Netherlands.
The handover symbolized the shared commitment of both countries toward cleaner, greener, and more sustainable mobility solutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Founder and Chairman of EKA Mobility, said that the rollout of the 1,000th SCV represents much more than a production milestone.
According to him, the achievement showcases the strength of Indian engineering, innovation, and manufacturing capabilities. He noted that the milestone is the result of years of dedication and a belief that India can emerge as a global leader in sustainable mobility through world-class products designed and manufactured within the country.
Dr. Mehta further emphasized that EKA's mission goes beyond vehicle manufacturing. The company aims to develop mobility solutions that help businesses reduce environmental impact, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to a cleaner future.
He also stated that EKA's manufacturing facilities are smart, lean, and technology-driven, enabling the company to scale rapidly as demand for electric commercial vehicles continues to grow across India.
The Chakan plant serves as EKA Mobility's dedicated manufacturing hub for small commercial vehicles and trucks. The facility currently employs more than 1,000 people and plays a central role in the company's expansion plans.
The manufacturing unit also houses a state-of-the-art in-house research and development center where over 400 engineers and designers work on vehicle development, technology innovation, and performance enhancement.
The company currently has an annual production capacity of up to 24,000 small commercial vehicles from the Chakan facility, helping it meet the rising demand for electric mobility solutions.
One of the unique highlights of the Chakan facility is EKA Mobility's all-women assembly line for SCV production, established under its EvolutioNARI initiative.
The initiative reflects the company's commitment to workforce diversity and inclusion while creating more opportunities for women in India's automotive manufacturing sector. It also supports the broader goal of encouraging greater female participation in industrial and technology-driven roles.
EKA Mobility currently operates multiple manufacturing facilities in India. Along with its Chakan plant for trucks and SCVs, the company also runs a dedicated bus manufacturing facility at Koregaon Bhima in Pune.
In addition, EKA is developing a new 47-acre manufacturing facility in Pithampur to support future growth and capacity expansion.
Once all facilities become fully operational, EKA Mobility expects to achieve annual production capacities of:
15,000 electric buses
24,000 small commercial vehicles
4,000 electric trucks
EKA Mobility is recognized as a Champion OEM under the Government of India's Automotive Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme. The company is supported by prominent investors and partners including VDL Groep, Mitsui & Co., NIIF India-Japan Fund, and Enam Holdings.
The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of electric commercial vehicles, including electric three-wheelers, small commercial vehicles, buses, and trucks. All vehicles are designed, engineered, and manufactured in India, supporting the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat vision while accelerating the country's transition to sustainable transportation.
The rollout of the 1,000th SCV comes at a time when electric commercial vehicles are witnessing rapid adoption across multiple industries. Businesses are increasingly turning to electric mobility solutions to lower operating costs, reduce emissions, and meet sustainability goals.
With expanding manufacturing capacity, strong global partnerships, advanced R&D capabilities, and a diverse product portfolio, EKA Mobility is positioning itself as a key player in India's fast-growing electric commercial vehicle market.
EKA Mobility's 1,000th electric small commercial vehicle milestone reflects the company's rapid growth in India's evolving electric mobility sector. With expanding manufacturing facilities, strong global partnerships, advanced R&D capabilities, and a diverse EV portfolio, EKA is strengthening its position in the commercial vehicle market. The achievement also highlights increasing demand for sustainable transportation solutions and supports India's broader vision of cleaner, greener, and self-reliant mobility for the future.
