In a major step towards reducing pollution and promoting cleaner transportation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and Eicher Trucks & Eicher Buses, a business unit of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the Scheme for Support to NCRPB for Replacement of Old Trucks and Buses in Delhi-NCR Area.
The partnership aims to encourage commercial vehicle owners to replace old and polluting trucks and buses with modern BS-VI and electric commercial vehicles (EVs). The initiative supports the Government of India's efforts to improve air quality across the Delhi-NCR region while promoting cleaner and more efficient transport solutions.
The fleet modernization scheme focuses on the phased replacement of BS-IV and older emission norm trucks and buses operating in Delhi-NCR. It brings together incentives from the Central Government, participating State Governments, and vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) to make the transition to cleaner vehicles more affordable.
As part of the agreement, Eicher Trucks & Buses will offer an 8% discount on the ex-showroom price of eligible vehicles purchased under the scheme. This exclusive offer is aimed at helping customers upgrade their fleets at a lower cost.
Apart from Eicher's special discount, eligible commercial vehicle owners can also benefit from several government-backed incentives, subject to eligibility criteria. These include:
Motor vehicle tax benefits
Registration fee support
Interest subvention
Fuel-related incentives
Additional support provided by the Central Government and participating State Governments
The combined benefits are expected to reduce the overall cost of replacing older vehicles and encourage faster adoption of cleaner technologies.
The scheme will be implemented through a centralized digital platform integrated with MoRTH's VAHAN database and the country's vehicle scrapping ecosystem.
This digital system will enable seamless verification of vehicle eligibility, processing of incentives, and smooth implementation of the fleet replacement program for commercial vehicle owners across Delhi-NCR.
Speaking on the partnership, S.S. Gill, Chief Commercial Officer, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., said that Eicher Trucks & Buses has been helping modernize India's commercial vehicle industry for more than four decades.
He added that the company is pleased to partner with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in this important initiative to replace old and polluting vehicles in the NCR region. According to him, Eicher customers will benefit from the attractive incentives offered by the Government of India and the State Governments of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan under the scheme.
Eicher Trucks & Buses has consistently focused on delivering technologically advanced, fuel-efficient, and sustainable commercial vehicles. Through this partnership with MoRTH, the company strengthens its commitment to supporting India's clean mobility transition while helping customers modernize their fleets with government-supported incentives.
The initiative is expected to play a key role in reducing emissions, improving fuel efficiency, and accelerating the adoption of cleaner commercial vehicles across the National Capital Region.
