Eicher Trucks and Buses, the commercial vehicle business of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), has reached nearly 2,000 electric trucks and E-buses operating across multiple commercial applications in India. The company shared the update on World EV Day 2026, highlighting its growing focus on electric mobility and cleaner commercial transportation.
Eicher’s electric vehicles are currently being used in applications such as tarmac operations, school and staff transportation, city bus services and distribution trucks. The company said its electric mobility strategy is built around three key areas, energy efficiency, vehicle performance and operating economics. Eicher is focusing on applications where electric vehicles can deliver practical benefits while also considering important commercial requirements such as productivity, reliability and overall operating costs.
To support the growing electric commercial vehicle fleet, Eicher has integrated more than 20,000 EV charging points into its My Eicher app. The charging network has been developed through partnerships with charging point operators across India. According to Eicher, this integration is aimed at giving electric commercial vehicle customers access to a wider charging network and helping address one of the key requirements for EV adoption, charging infrastructure.
Eicher is also working to reduce the environmental impact of its own operations. The company said that nearly 26% of its total energy requirement in FY2024-25 was met through green energy sources. This was supported by a 14.2 MW Group Captive Power Purchase Agreement and 7.2 MW of rooftop solar capacity.
At its Pithampur operations, employees have also had the option since last year to commute using the company's electric buses. Meanwhile, Eicher’s Bhopal operations feature zero liquid discharge systems, water-saving technologies and a 52-million-litre rainwater-harvesting reservoir.
Beyond electric vehicles, Eicher is developing a broader new-energy commercial vehicle portfolio covering EV, CNG and LNG technologies. The company is also investing in hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2ICE) and hydrogen fuel cell technologies.
Eicher also highlighted its early showcase of BS-VI commercial vehicles in 2019 as part of its wider progression towards cleaner propulsion technologies.
VECV is a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors. Its operations cover Eicher trucks and buses, Volvo Buses in India, Volvo Trucks distribution, engine manufacturing, engineering components and Eicher Power Solutions.

Eicher Trucks and Buses is steadily expanding its electric commercial vehicle presence in India, with nearly 2,000 electric trucks and buses already in operation. Its integration of over 20,000 charging points also addresses a major EV adoption challenge. At the same time, investments in green energy, CNG, LNG and hydrogen technologies show Eicher’s broader strategy to build a cleaner, more efficient and sustainable commercial vehicle ecosystem.
