Greenlane's First EV Charging Corridor for Commercial Vehicles

Key Highlights:
•    Daimler Truck unveils Greenlane's EV charging corridor for commercial vehicles in the U.S.
•    The corridor spans Interstate I-15 with over 100 chargers and modern facilities.
•    Initial stations are Colton, Barstow, and Baker, California.
•    Greenlane plans a nationwide network, including fast chargers and hydrogen refuelling options.
•    Construction is set to begin in Colton this year, featuring DCFC technology for heavy-duty vehicles.

Daimler Truck has unveiled Greenlane Infrastructure's first EV charging corridor for commercial vehicles in the United States.

Greenlane is a joint venture between Daimler Truck North America, NextEra Energy Resources, and BlackRock (via a fund managed by its Climate Infrastructure business). The company intends to design, develop, install, and operate a high-performance zero-emission public charging and hydrogen refueling network for medium- and heavy-duty battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles in the United States.

The charging corridor's inauguration is a significant step forward in Greenlane's aim to solve the growing demand for publicly accessible electric charging infrastructure.

The new charging corridor includes more than 100 chargers and modern facilities, intends to speed the adoption of carbon-neutral freight transportation with three initial charging stations in Colton, Barstow, and Baker, California.

After considering various factors, such as truck telematics data, frequent freight routes and customer deployment strategy, the Greenlane team selected these three optimal locations for their first commercial charging corridor to accelerate the transition to zero emissions.

Over the next year, additional locations will be added along the corridor, expanding from Southern Nevada to San Pedro, California.

Greenlane plans to commence construction on its first site in Colton this year, with an expected opening date of late 2024. At full capacity, the Colton site will feature over 60 chargers, including 400 kW Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC) to accelerate charging of medium- and heavy-duty zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).

More 200 kW DCFC charging options on-site will allow for long-term and overnight charging of heavy-duty tractors, medium-duty ZEVs, and school buses. Later project phases will include long-duration and overnight charging lanes for tractor-trailer combinations. The Greenlane site in Colton will also be future-proofed to support the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) when it becomes commercially available.

Each Greenlane site will feature broad pull-through lanes, allowing drivers to approach and exit the property swiftly and easily. While waiting for their vehicles to charge, drivers can use contemporary facilities that include restrooms and other amenities such as food and beverages.

The launch of this corridor marks a critical step in addressing the urgent need for publicly available, nationwide electric charging for commercial vehicles and will also serve as a model for the EV charging hubs of the future.

Greenlane intends to establish a nationwide network of commercial charging infrastructure locations throughout the United States. The charging stations will also serve battery-electric passenger car and light-duty fleet clients, with plans to enable hydrogen refueling for commercial vehicles in the future.
