Bajaj Auto will unveil its first electric three-wheeler in April. The product will be introduced for both the cargo and passenger vehicle categories. Initially, a three-wheeler will be available in a restricted number of cities due to the company's desire to phase the rollout.
The commercial and passenger electric three-wheeler vehicles will go on sale in April. There will be a limited supply because the brand wants to take it gradually because providing a stable product to commercial users is important.
Last year, the company planned to sell electric three-wheelers but postponed the launch due to user safety concerns. Bajaj Auto will raise the prices of its vehicle offerings in April, but does not expect a drop in demand.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, stated, "FAME approval and ARAI certification have been completed. There will be only a few deliveries in the next weeks. The dealerships are being prepped, and training is already in progress."
According to ICRA research, the adoption of electric three-wheelers in India will be between 14% and 16% by FY25, up from 8% today. According to the rating agency, penetration will climb to 35-40% by FY30 as the product gets popularity and financing-related constraints fade.
As of Q3 FY23, Bajaj Auto owned 76% of the three-wheeler market. But, it lacked an electric vehicle to compete with rival Mahindra & Mahindra, which is now the market leader in the electric three-wheeler category.
