Sugarcane crushing work is progressing rapidly this season.
The Sugarcane Department shared that:
114 sugar mills have issued indents for sugarcane purchase.
Crushing operations have officially started in 104 mills.
Continuous monitoring by the government is helping the 2025-26 season begin smoothly, ensuring farmers do not face delays or disruptions.
To strengthen the procurement system, the Additional Chief Secretary (Sugarcane Department) has issued clear directions to all district officials. These include:
Proper setup of sugarcane procurement centers
Timely purchase and smooth operation of weighbridges
Availability of weighbridge clerks and standardized bots
Clean and hygienic facilities for farmers
Strict checks against weighing irregularities
Officials must send regular inspection reports from cooperative and municipal mills to the headquarters.
They have also been told to resolve farmer complaints promptly to avoid delays in procurement and ensure farmers face no inconvenience.
In a major announcement for farmers, the state government has approved a ₹30 per quintal hike in sugarcane prices for the 2025-26 crushing season.
As per Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry Minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary:
Early variety sugarcane price: ₹400 per quintal
Regular variety price: ₹390 per quintal
This increase is expected to give farmers an additional benefit of around ₹3,000 crore, directly boosting their income and helping them prepare better for the next crop cycle.
