The Madhya Pradesh government has given a major boost to the agriculture sector in the 2026-27 Budget. During the budget speech in the Legislative Assembly, Finance Minister Jagdish Devda announced big steps to increase farmers income, improve irrigation facilities, and promote sustainable energy use. The biggest highlight is the launch of 1 lakh solar irrigation pumps under the Pradhan Mantri Krishak Surya Mitra Yojana (PMKSY).

₹3,000 Crore Plan to Install 1 Lakh Solar Pumps

Under this scheme, the state will provide 100,000 solar irrigation pumps to farmers during the financial year 2026-27. The government has allocated ₹3,000 crore for this initiative.

The main aim is to reduce farmers dependence on diesel and traditional electricity for irrigation. Solar-powered pumps will lower farming costs and provide uninterrupted energy supply. Earlier, 1.25 lakh transformers were installed under the Permanent Irrigation Pump Connection Scheme, strengthening rural power infrastructure.
