The Uttar Pradesh government has started inviting applications for the Khet Talab Yojana 2025. Under this scheme, farmers will receive a 50% subsidy on the construction of farm ponds and the installation of irrigation pump sets. This step comes in response to the IMD’s latest monsoon forecast, which predicts active southwest monsoon conditions and heavy rainfall across various regions. These rains often lead to flood-like situations, especially in low-lying fields, causing damage to crops and losses to farmers.
To address this issue, the government is promoting rainwater harvesting and flood control through farm ponds. The scheme is expected to help farmers collect and store water during the monsoon and use it later for irrigation and other purposes.

The Khet Talab Yojana is part of the “Other Intervention” sub-component of the “Per Drop More Crop” program, which itself falls under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY). It aims to conserve rainwater, improve groundwater levels, and reduce flood-related crop damage.
From 2017-18 to 2025, the government has already constructed over 37,000 farm ponds in Uttar Pradesh. The ponds not only support irrigation but also enable farmers to pursue fish farming and other income-generating activities.
Given the benefits of the scheme, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to continue it for the financial year 2025-26. Applications for the new financial year began on 3rd June 2025. Only eligible farmers will be selected for the subsidy.
The cost of digging a pond of size 20x20x3 meters is estimated at ₹1,05,000 by the Agriculture Department.
Farmers will receive 50% subsidy or up to ₹52,500 for pond construction.
Additionally, farmers will get 50% subsidy or up to ₹15,000 for installing a pump set on the pond.
To be eligible for this scheme:
Farmers must have a micro-irrigation system installed on their fields.
The system must have been set up within the last 7 years via the Horticulture or Agriculture Department and should be in working condition.
If not already installed, farmers must submit a tripartite agreement with the Horticulture Department at the time of verification.
The grant will be disbursed in two installments via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The pump set subsidy is only available to:
Farmers who have been approved under the Khet Talab Yojana.
Farmers who have completed both pond construction and Micro Irrigation System installation by the date of application.
Applications for pump set subsidy must be submitted separately on the departmental portal.
Interested farmers can apply online at agriculture.up.gov.in. The application process is based on first-come, first-served.
Apply online through the official portal.
A token confirmation will be sent via SMS to the registered mobile number.
The last date for uploading documents will be displayed on the portal.
Pay ₹1,000 token money at the time of booking for the farm pond subsidy.
Upload required land documents like Khasra, Khatauni, and a declaration form.
If the process isn’t completed on time, the booking will be canceled, the token forfeited, and the next farmer on the waiting list will be allotted the spot.
Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi has urged all eligible farmers to take full advantage of the scheme and support water conservation efforts. Farmers can also contact local agriculture department offices for help with the application process or more information.
