Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar, has brought big news for farmers by developing five new improved varieties of sorghum, millet, lentil, and gram. These varieties are designed to give higher yield, better quality in less time, and disease resistance, helping farmers earn more and strengthen the country’s food grain production.

New Improved Varieties Released

Biofortified Millet HHB-299

  • Rich in iron (73 PPM)

  • Matures in 75–81 days

  • Yield capacity: up to 49 quintals/hectare

  • Suitable for Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu

  • Known for disease resistance and high productivity

Fodder Sorghum CSV 53 F

  • Single harvest fodder variety

  • Yield: 482.81 quintals/hectare green fodder

  • Dry fodder: 152.67 quintals/hectare

  • Seeds: 13.39 quintals/hectare

  • Suitable for fodder-producing areas across India

Fodder Sorghum CSV 64 F

  • Recommended for North India

  • Yield: 466.3 quintals/hectare green fodder

  • Dry fodder: 121.8 quintals/hectare

  • Seed production: 15.2 quintals/hectare

Haryana Kabuli Chana HK 5

  • Early maturing and resistant to Ukhaida disease

  • Yield: 24.55 quintals/hectare

  • Ready in 151 days after sowing

  • Suitable for Haryana

Lentil LH 17-19

  • Resistant to rust and blight disease

  • Yield: 15–16 quintals/hectare

  • Matures in 130–135 days

  • Suitable for North India

Public-Private Partnership for Farmers Benefit

To ensure large-scale seed production and supply, HAU has signed an MoU with Star Agriseeds Private Limited, Rajasthan, under the PPP model. This partnership will help farmers get quality seeds easily and on time. It will benefit farmers not only in Haryana but also in Rajasthan and other states.
