The Central Government is set to launch the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) on 23 August 2025 to promote natural farming across India. Funding and Implementation

The mission is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare based on a plan prepared by NITI Aayog. The total funding of ₹2481 crore will come from both the central and state governments.

  • Centre’s contribution: ₹1584 crore

  • State governments’ contribution: ₹897 crore

Registrations for this scheme have already started, and farmers can apply through the official websitenaturalfarming.dac.gov.in. The program will run for the next two years and may be extended depending on its success and utilization of funds.

Objectives of the National Mission on Natural Farming

The mission has multiple goals aimed at transforming Indian agriculture:

  • Boost crop yield in fields

  • Reduce input costs and dependency on purchased agricultural inputs

  • Increase farmers income by enabling higher production at lower costs

  • Improve soil health for long-term sustainability

  • Generate employment opportunities in rural areas

How the Mission Will Work

To ensure smooth execution, the government has designed a structured plan:

  • 15,000 clusters will be formed at the Gram Panchayat level

  • Special focus will be given to states where natural farming is already popular, such as Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu

  • Establishment of 10,000 bio-input resource centers to provide natural farming tools and resources to farmers

  • Development of a simple certification system for natural products to help farmers sell in the market easily

  • Launch of integrated branding and marketing strategies to promote natural products nationwide

  • Use of real-time geo-tagged monitoring through an online portal for transparency and tracking progress
