₹1,278 crore to develop Ahmedabad as Olympic Ready City.
₹3,043 crore for irrigation projects in drought areas.

The Gujarat government has presented its biggest-ever budget for the financial year 2026-27. The total budget size stands at ₹4,08,053 crore, with a projected surplus of ₹25,587 crore.
Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai presented the budget in the Assembly under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The budget focuses on housing, development, agriculture, sports, tourism, environment, and industrial growth.
The biggest announcement in the Gujarat Budget 2026-27 is the construction of over 3.15 lakh new houses.
These homes will mainly be built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and other state housing schemes. The aim is to provide permanent homes to poor and needy families in both rural and urban areas.
This large-scale housing target is part of the government’s commitment to improving living conditions and ensuring housing security for thousands of families across Gujarat.
The budget highlights the “GYAN” mantra, which focuses on:
The poor
The youth
Food providers (farmers)
Women empowerment
Under this approach, priority has been given to free food grains and housing schemes for the poor. The 3.15 lakh housing target is a key part of this social support strategy.
A major highlight of the budget is the plan to transform Ahmedabad into an “Olympic Ready City” in preparation for the 2036 Olympics.
₹1,278 crore has been allocated for this purpose.
₹2,006 crore has been set aside for the Sports Ministry.
The plan includes the development of international-level sports complexes, modern stadiums, and improved transport infrastructure to strengthen Gujarat’s position in global sports.
The government has declared 2026 as “Gujarat Tourism Year” to boost tourism and religious development.
₹3,090 crore has been allocated for tourism, pilgrimage sites, and civil aviation.
A master plan worth ₹5,096 crore has been announced for tourism, sports, and religious place development.
The goal is to improve infrastructure, attract more visitors, and strengthen the state’s tourism economy.
The budget includes strong support for farmers and irrigation projects.
₹3,043 crore for Sujalam-Sufalam and SAUNI projects to bring Narmada water to drought-prone areas.
₹500 crore for the Kisan Suryoday Yojana.
₹1,166 crore for new agricultural electricity connections.
₹350 crore for new substations.
₹200 crore for solar pumps under the Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana.
These measures will ensure better irrigation, daytime power supply, and reduced electricity costs for farmers.
The Gujarat Budget 2026-27 also focuses on climate and green development.
₹429 crore for the Department of Climate Change.
₹3,560 crore for the Forest and Environment Department.
Separate funds for social forestry, forest conservation, and wildlife management.
₹278 crore for installing solar rooftops on government buildings.
The budget also includes subsidies and infrastructure support for electric vehicles, including charging station development.
To promote industrial growth and entrepreneurship:
₹1,775 crore has been allocated to support the MSME sector.
25 GIDCs will be developed as smart hubs.
i-Hub centres will be expanded to Surat, Vadodara, Mehsana, and Rajkot.
₹452 crore has been allocated to the Information and Broadcasting Department.
Mobile journalism kits have also been announced.
These steps aim to strengthen innovation, small businesses, and digital media development in the state.
The Gujarat Budget 2026-27 clearly focuses on development, infrastructure, and social welfare. Among all announcements, the construction of 3.15 lakh new homes stands out as the largest social initiative.
By expanding housing under PMAY and other schemes, the government aims to give thousands of families a secure and permanent place to live. Along with investments in sports, tourism, agriculture, environment, and industry, the budget sets a strong foundation for Gujarat’s growth in the coming year.
The Gujarat Budget 2026-27 presents a strong roadmap for inclusive growth with a record ₹4.08 lakh crore outlay. From building 3.15 lakh homes under PMAY to major investments in agriculture, tourism, sports, and green energy, the budget balances welfare and development. With a projected surplus and targeted support for farmers, MSMEs, and the poor, the government aims to strengthen infrastructure, housing security, and long-term economic progress across the state.
