The Agriculture Ministry has set up a Special Monitoring Cell for real-time tracking of fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides. Weekly updates, strict anti-hoarding measures, and faster Farmer ID rollout aim to ensure Kharif season readiness.

Key Highlights

  • Special Agriculture Monitoring Cell established for real-time tracking of input supplies
  • Weekly updates to be submitted directly to the Agriculture Minister for fast decision-making
  • Strict action planned against hoarding and black marketing of fertilizers and seeds
  • Farmer ID system rollout accelerated to improve transparency and subsidy targeting
The Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ministry has launched a Special Agriculture Monitoring Cell to oversee the supply of key agricultural inputs. This move aims to protect India's agriculture during global supply disruptions and ensure farmers have access to fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides ahead of the Kharif season.

Special Cell for Real-Time Monitoring

The Special Cell will track the availability of fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides across India. It will submit weekly updates directly to the Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan. This real-time reporting will help the government respond quickly to shortages or supply disruptions. The cell's creation marks a shift toward proactive governance, allowing authorities to address problems before they affect farmers and crop output.

The government has made uninterrupted fertilizer supply a top priority. The minister has directed officials to speed up the rollout of the Farmer ID system. This system will improve transparency and efficiency in distributing fertilizers and subsidies. The Farmer ID will also help build a national database of farmers, which can improve targeting of government schemes and reduce subsidy leakages.

Measures Against Hoarding and Supply Chain Issues

The Agriculture Minister has ordered strict action against hoarding and black marketing of agricultural inputs. State governments will be encouraged to enforce measures to prevent artificial shortages and price manipulation. These steps are intended to protect farmers during the critical sowing period.

The review meeting also discussed the supply of agrochemicals and industrial gases needed for seed drying and storage. The minister stressed the importance of maintaining a steady supply of packaging materials, especially for milk and other agricultural products. To address these needs, the ministry will coordinate with the Ministry of Petroleum and other agencies to ensure uninterrupted supply chains for packaging and industrial gases.

Focus on Kharif Season Preparedness

The government is preparing for the upcoming Kharif season by strengthening input supply chains and improving transparency. The minister plans to meet with chief ministers and state agriculture ministers to ensure consistent implementation of the Farmer ID system nationwide. These efforts aim to create a resilient and transparent agricultural ecosystem.

By establishing the Special Monitoring Cell, accelerating the Farmer ID rollout, and enforcing strict market regulations, the government seeks to safeguard farmers' interests. The focus remains on timely delivery of agricultural inputs and maintaining stability in the sector during global uncertainties.
