In a major move to modernize agriculture, the Bihar government will provide a maximum subsidy of ₹3.65 lakh or 60% of the drone cost (whichever is less) for purchasing agricultural drones. This subsidy will be available across 101 subdivisions of the state during the financial year 2025-26. The goal is to reduce input costs, improve crop quality, and increase productivity through the use of smart farming tools.
Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha announced that several groups are eligible for the scheme, including:
Individual farmers
Agricultural machinery banks
Self-help groups (SHGs)
Agricultural clinic operators
Licensed pesticide sellers
Farmer producer organizations (FPOs)
Applications must be submitted online via the OFMAS portal, ensuring a simple and transparent process.
Along with the subsidy, the government is also offering drone pilot training. Under this scheme:
101 trainees will be trained
Training cost per trainee: ₹35,000
Total training budget: ₹35.35 lakh
This training will ensure that farmers and other beneficiaries can operate drones safely and use them efficiently for agricultural purposes.
The Bihar government has allocated a total budget of ₹368.65 lakh for the drone subsidy scheme. This includes both financial assistance for purchasing drones and the cost of training programs.
Drone technology is fast becoming a game-changer in agriculture. Some major advantages include:
Faster and uniform spraying of pesticides and fertilizers
Reduction in chemical wastage and balanced application
Less physical labor is required on the field
Lower input costs and improved crop quality
Early detection of pests and diseases
Environmentally safe practices
The use of drones ensures precision in farming, reduces harm to the environment, and saves time.
Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said,
“This scheme is a step towards making farmers self-reliant and encouraging sustainable agriculture. Drone technology will help reduce costs and increase both crop quality and productivity. It will revolutionize the way farming is done in Bihar.”
