50% subsidy on Alan Management vegetable farming.
Ideal for vine vegetables like bottle gourd & ladyfinger.
Production can increase by 20–30%.
Reduces pests, diseases, labour, and cost.
Scheme under RKVY boosting rural economy.
Bihar farmers now have a significant opportunity to increase vegetable production and profits with the state government’s new initiative promoting the Alan Management Technology. This scientific farming technique, supported under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), provides up to 50% subsidy for adopting modern cultivation methods.
The Alan Management Technique uses a trellis system where vegetables are grown vertically with structural support made of bamboo, iron wire, or twine. This method is ideal for vine vegetables such as ivy gourd, bottle gourd, bitter gourd, pointed gourd, ridge gourd, and ladyfinger. The technique ensures better growth, longer fruiting periods, and high-quality vegetables suitable for the market.
Improved plant growth and health
Longer fruiting period for vegetables
Market-standard size and quality of produce
Reduced pest and disease attacks
Efficient use of land
The Bihar government has allocated Rs 4.5 crore for the Alan Management Scheme for 2025-26. Farmers can get a 50% subsidy on the cost of setting up the system:
Cost per unit (125 sqm): Rs 4,500
Subsidy per unit: Rs 2,250
Minimum unit: 1 (125 sqm)
Maximum units: 16 (2000 sqm)
For example, if a farmer sets up the system on 8 units (1000 sqm), the total cost would be Rs 36,000, and the government subsidy would be Rs 18,000.
State Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said the scheme will benefit lakhs of vegetable farmers in Bihar. Expected advantages include:
20–30% increase in vegetable production
Reduced pest and disease problems
Labour and time savings
Direct market-ready produce
Increased farmer income by reducing production costs
This initiative encourages innovation and sustainable farming. Small and medium farmers can participate, lowering farming costs and boosting rural employment. It also aims to balance vegetable supply and demand while strengthening the agriculture-based economy.
Farmers can typically apply through their District Agriculture Office or the state Agriculture Department’s website. Application forms and detailed information are also available on the Bihar government agriculture portal.
Running under the National Agricultural Development Scheme (RKVY), this joint effort of the Central and Bihar governments aims to enable thousands of farmers to adopt Alan technology by 2025-26. The initiative supports better production, cost reduction, and doubling farmer income, making it a major step in Bihar’s agricultural growth strategy.
