3 new oat varieties developed by CCS HAU, Hisar.
Suitable for different regions and all seasons.
HFO 917 and HFO 1014 give both fodder and seeds.
HFO 915 gives the highest green fodder yield of 234 q/ha.
Approved by the Government of India for nationwide use.
India's livestock farmers have received a big gift from Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCS HAU), Hisar. The university’s fodder section has developed three new improved varieties of oats that promise high green fodder yield, better seed production, and year-round availability. These varieties are specially made for different regions and seasons of the country, helping reduce fodder costs and improve milk yield and animal health.

The newly developed HFO 917, HFO 1014, and HFO 915 oat varieties are scientifically tested and approved by the Government of India, ensuring that farmers can sow them on time. These varieties are suitable for different climatic zones, making quality green fodder available across India.
As per the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.R. Kamboj, India currently faces an 11.24% shortage of green fodder and a 23.4% shortage of dry fodder. This directly affects animal productivity. The introduction of these high-yielding oat varieties is expected to reduce this gap and improve overall livestock health and output.
Developed by the fodder research team, including Dr. Yogesh Jindal and others, this variety is ideal for both green fodder and seed production.
Green Fodder Yield: ~192 quintals/hectare
Dry Fodder Yield: ~28 quintals/hectare
Seed Production: ~23.8 quintals/hectare
Protein Content:
14.4% (North-West India)
9.38% (North-East India)
Also developed by the same expert team, this variety provides good yields and protein content.
Green Fodder Yield: ~185 quintals/hectare
Dry Fodder Yield: ~28 quintals/hectare
Seed Production:
~24.3 quintals/hectare (North-West)
~18 quintals/hectare (North-East)
Protein Content:
15.5% (North-West India)
Recommended States for HFO 917 & HFO 1014:

This variety is perfect for regions where multiple harvests are needed. It is especially recommended for Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Green Fodder Yield: ~234 quintals/hectare
Dry Fodder Yield: ~50 quintals/hectare
Seed Production: ~15.7 quintals/hectare
Protein Content: ~10%
Productivity Advantage:
4% more than RO-19
9% more than UPO-212
This variety was developed with the help of scientists Dr. Dalwinder Pal Singh and Dr. Bajrang Lal Sharma, in addition to the core research team.
These three new oat varieties will help solve the fodder crisis in India, especially during extreme climate periods or seasonal shortages. By adopting these varieties based on their regional suitability, farmers can reduce fodder costs, improve milk yield, and ensure better health for their animals throughout the year.
With dual-use benefits, higher protein content, and higher yield per hectare, these varieties are a major step forward for self-sufficiency in livestock fodder production.
Abundant green and dry fodder availability
Better seed production alongside fodder
Region-specific performance for all-weather growing
Improved milk yield and animal health
