Volvo Trucks India has introduced the new Volvo FMX Edge off-road dump truck in India to improve productivity, safety, efficiency, and lifecycle value in mining operations. The new dump truck was launched at the Volvo facility in Hoskote, Bengaluru, in the presence of leading mining customers and senior executives from VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. and Volvo Construction Equipment.
The Volvo FMX Edge is developed on the strong foundation of the Volvo FMX platform, which has already proven itself in Indian mining conditions. Over the last five years, more than 3,000 Volvo FMX500 8x4 trucks have been operating in mining applications across the country. Building on this success, the FMX Edge has been specially designed for modern mining operations that now demand higher productivity, larger excavator compatibility, improved safety, better fuel efficiency, and predictable long-term performance.
The Volvo FMX Edge has been developed using deep customer insights and extensive testing in real mining environments. The company said that mining operations in India are rapidly evolving, with businesses now focusing more on productivity, operational efficiency, safety standards, driver comfort, and long-term value.
To meet these requirements, the Volvo FMX Edge comes with a large 31.2 cubic metre SAE heap body capacity and a 2.8-metre-wide body configuration. This setup allows better compatibility with high-capacity excavators and helps improve loading efficiency and cycle productivity in mining operations.
The truck is designed mainly for efficient overburden movement in mines and is built to deliver dependable full-load performance even in demanding conditions.
The Volvo FMX Edge is powered by Volvo’s proven FMX platform that offers industry-leading power and torque. Along with performance, the truck also focuses heavily on safety and stability.
The dump truck features globally advanced safety systems, improved vehicle stability, and efficiency-focused technologies aimed at delivering safer operations, lower fuel consumption, and predictable lifecycle performance.
Volvo Trucks said the new FMX Edge is not just about carrying more load, but about offering customers greater confidence, operational predictability, uptime, and long-term business value.
Speaking at the launch event, Per-Erik Lindström said that India continues to be an important market for the Volvo Group. He stated that the launch of the Volvo FMX Edge reflects Volvo’s commitment to Indian customers and its focus on building solutions around real operational needs.
According to him, the FMX Edge combines Volvo’s global expertise with the specific requirements of Indian mining operations and supports customer success, sustainable progress, and long-term growth.
B. Srinivas said that Volvo Trucks has earned the trust of Indian mining customers over nearly three decades by delivering reliable solutions for real operating conditions. He added that the FMX Edge has been engineered around customer priorities such as productivity, safety, uptime, efficiency, and lifecycle value.
B. Dinakar said that the Volvo FMX Edge has been developed with a clear purpose of helping mining customers achieve better operational outcomes every day.
He explained that the truck has been shaped by feedback from mine sites, project teams, maintenance teams, operators, and drivers. According to him, the FMX Edge represents Volvo Trucks’ response to the changing needs of modern mining operations.
Arun Pillai also highlighted that the truck has been designed around customer applications and long-term value. He stated that mining customers today require productivity solutions that remain efficient, safe, and predictable throughout the duty cycle, and the FMX Edge aims to meet these expectations.
After the official launch, Volvo organized an experience session at the Volvo CE Customer Centre Ground. During the event, customers interacted with the Volvo FMX Edge in an application-based environment to better understand its capabilities in mining operations.
The session was jointly hosted by Dimitrov Krishnan and B. Dinakar. The event also highlighted the combined strength of the Volvo ecosystem, where Volvo Trucks and Volvo Construction Equipment showcased a unified approach toward productivity-focused mining solutions.
With the launch of the Volvo FMX Edge, Volvo Trucks India has further strengthened its commitment to supporting India’s mining sector with advanced transport solutions designed for real mining challenges.
The company said the new dump truck has been engineered to deliver better productivity, operational efficiency, safety, and long-term value for mining businesses across India.
