The KSRTC now operates one prototype electric bus and intends to deploy 50 e-buses on intercity routes by March 2023.

Volvo Buses India will supply Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) with 20 Volvo 9600 sleeper coaches, making it the first Agency to add these premia buses to its fleet.

Sixteen of these coaches will operate out of Bangalore, while the remaining four will operate out of Mangalore. These coaches will join the 357 Volvo buses already in use by KSRTC, India's largest Volvo coach operator.

The Volvo 9600 is a 15m seater coach with a passenger capacity of 55, while the sleeper coach has 40 berths. It was launched in India in September 2022. The luggage space in the seater and sleeper applications is 15.1 cubic metres and 9.2 cubic metres, respectively. The 13.5m coach can accommodate up to 47 passengers, while the sleeper version has 36 berths. The luggage space is 13.6 cubic metres for the seater variant and 8.1 cubic metres for the sleeper variant.

"By adding the latest Volvo 9600 buses to our existing fleet, our endeavor is to deliver a luxurious experience to our travellers without compromising their comfort and safety," stated V Anbukkumar, Managing Director of KSRTC.

Future plans of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation is renovating automobiles. Thus far, 250 vehicles have been restored and put back into service. In addition, KSRTC plans to induct 600 Karnataka Sarige buses in the next three months to provide transportation to customers in rural areas, according to another KSRTC press release. I

mportantly, the KSRTC now operates one prototype electric bus and intends to deploy 50 e-buses on intercity routes by March 2023. It also intends to phase in 350 e-buses to provide well-equipped transportation amenities.
