Uttar Pradesh government approves maize procurement policy under MSP for Kharif Marketing Year 2025-26.
Maize procurement will start from June 15, 2026, and continue until July 31, 2026.
MSP for maize fixed at ₹2,400 per quintal.
150 procurement centres to be set up across 25 districts.
Farmers are likely to receive payment within 48 hours directly in their bank accounts.
Maize-producing farmers in Uttar Pradesh have received major relief as the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the maize procurement policy under the Price Support Scheme (MSP) for the Kharif Marketing Year 2025-26.
Under the approved policy, the state government will procure maize at a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of ₹2,400 per quintal. The procurement drive will begin on June 15, 2026, and continue until July 31, 2026. The initiative aims to ensure farmers receive fair prices for their produce and are protected from low market rates.
To facilitate smooth procurement, the government will establish 150 maize procurement centres across 25 districts of Uttar Pradesh. These districts include Firozabad, Agra, Mainpuri, Aligarh, Kasganj, Hathras, Etah, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Rampur, Sambhal, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Kanpur Nagar, Auraiya, Etawah, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, Hardoi, Unnao, Bahraich, Ballia, Gonda, Fatehpur and Mirzapur.
The state government has set a procurement target of 25,000 metric tonnes of maize during the Kharif Marketing Year 2025-26. Officials have stated that the procurement system will be monitored continuously and additional arrangements will be made whenever required to ensure farmers do not face difficulties in selling their produce.
Farmers planning to sell maize under the MSP procurement programme will need to provide a computerized and verified copy of their land records, Aadhaar card and a valid photo identity proof.
To improve transparency, verification of land ownership and sown area will be carried out online through the Bhulekh portal. The digital verification process is expected to prevent fraudulent claims and ensure that only genuine farmers receive the benefits of the scheme.
The Uttar Pradesh government has also introduced measures to ensure timely payments. The payment for procured maize will be transferred directly to farmers' Aadhaar-linked and NPCI-mapped bank accounts through the PFMS (Public Financial Management System) portal.
According to the government, efforts will be made to complete payments within 48 hours of procurement. This is expected to help farmers access funds quickly for agricultural expenses and preparations for the next cropping season.
Apart from the maize procurement policy, the cabinet also approved a proposal related to the animal husbandry sector. An MoU has been signed for the establishment of a cow shelter and animal service centre in Jhansi.
The facility will be developed on five acres of land belonging to the Animal Husbandry Department in collaboration with a private organisation. The government believes that the project will strengthen animal welfare services, improve animal care and protection, and support better livestock management in the region.

The approval of the maize procurement policy is expected to provide significant support to maize farmers across Uttar Pradesh. With procurement at an MSP of ₹2,400 per quintal, dedicated procurement centres, digital verification systems and fast payment mechanisms, the government aims to make the procurement process transparent and farmer-friendly. Alongside this, the approval of a cow shelter and animal service centre in Jhansi highlights the state's continued focus on strengthening both agriculture and animal welfare infrastructure.
