PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme: PM Modi Flags Off 200 JBM Electric Buses in Guwahati, Bhavnagar, and Nagpur

Key Highlights

  • 200 JBM electric buses flagged off by PM Modi.

  • 100 for Guwahati, 50 each for Bhavnagar and Nagpur.

  • 9-metre AC low-floor buses with CCTV and automatic doors.

  • Over 300 million km covered by the JBM electric fleet.

  • Supports India’s net-zero emission target by 2070.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 200 new electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme in Guwahati, Assam, marking one of the biggest single-event deployments under the central government’s urban mobility program.

The newly launched fleet includes 100 buses for Guwahati in Assam, 50 buses for Bhavnagar in Gujarat, and 50 buses for Nagpur in Maharashtra. With this rollout, JBM Auto has crossed a major milestone, taking its total operational electric bus fleet in India beyond 3,200 units.

Fleet Distribution Across Three Cities

The electric buses have been distributed as follows:

  • 100 buses for Guwahati

  • 50 buses for Bhavnagar

  • 50 buses for Nagpur

Officials in Guwahati described the addition as a major boost for the city’s public transport system, which has largely depended on older diesel buses. The new electric fleet is expected to improve daily commuting and strengthen intra-city connectivity.

Modern Features for Passenger Comfort and Safety

The deployed buses are 9-metre low-floor, air-conditioned units designed specifically for city routes. They come equipped with:

  • CCTV cameras for safety

  • Automatic doors for smooth boarding

  • Accessibility features for senior citizens

  • Facilities for passengers with disabilities

These buses aim to improve last-mile connectivity while significantly reducing carbon emissions in urban areas.

To support daily operations, charging stations and depot infrastructure are being developed in Guwahati, Bhavnagar, and Nagpur. The commissioning of these facilities is underway, and the new routes are expected to become operational in the coming weeks.

JBM Auto’s Growing Electric Bus Footprint

According to JBM Auto, its electric bus fleet has collectively:

  • Covered over 300 million electric kilometres

  • Served more than one billion passengers

  • Helped avoid over one billion kilograms of CO₂ emissions

The company manufactures its electric buses at a facility it describes as one of the largest electric bus plants outside China. The plant has a stated annual production capacity of 20,000 units.

Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of JBM Auto, said the deployment reflects India’s steady progress toward green mobility. He highlighted the role of visionary leadership, progressive policies, and strong public-private collaboration in accelerating large-scale transformation.

Government Push Towards Green Urban Transport

The PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme was launched to introduce electric buses in cities that lack organised bus services. The program has seen participation from multiple bus manufacturers and state transport undertakings.

Officials view such large-scale deployments as important steps toward India’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2070. By electrifying public transport, the government aims to reduce pollution, modernise city transport systems, and provide safer and more comfortable travel options for citizens.

For Guwahati, Bhavnagar, and Nagpur, the arrival of these 200 electric buses signals a strong shift toward cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable urban mobility.

CMV360 Says

The flag-off of 200 electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme marks a strong step toward cleaner and smarter public transport in Guwahati, Bhavnagar, and Nagpur. With modern features, improved accessibility, and dedicated charging infrastructure, these buses will enhance daily commuting while reducing carbon emissions. The expansion also strengthens JBM Auto’s growing electric fleet and supports India’s long-term net-zero 2070 sustainability goal.
